Mechanicus Tech-Support
Looks okay for now as it's still a work in progress, my main gripe as things stand is nothing seems to have any "oomph" behind it. Like when those assault marines jumped into the enemy (1m:21s ish) you have the landing shockwave and the debris effects but the enemy retained perfect coherency during the whole thing. I guess cautiously optimistic is how I'm looking at this right now as I really just want a somewhat decent classic rts at this point roryokane and Wispy 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/386542-dawn-of-war-iv-reveal-trailer/page/2/#findComment-6128736 Share on other sites

I haven't played, but this seems to be a consensus amongst everyone I've talked to. I will say that Soulstorm had potential to be the best if it kept the the campaign closer to how Dark Crusade operated and got rid of the goddang aircraft for different units. It's hard to believe that Soulstorm came out in 2008. That's almost two decades more of extra units to use. mel_danes 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/386542-dawn-of-war-iv-reveal-trailer/page/2/#findComment-6128740 Share on other sites
Magos Takatus
I'm cautiously optimistic. Very surprised to see Admech get the spotlight out of the Mechanicus game. I just have to say if they default to the "Chaos did it" trope again I'm going to start rioting. They are both very good examples of two different styles of RTS. Agramar_The_Luna_Wolf
Looks interesting to me. The inclusion of Ad Mech it's a surprise, a good one. Anyway, DoW 3 also looked great at beginning, but in the end... Let's see how the things are going. But the little bit of gameplay seems more like DoW 1. Bigger scale armies. The smaller scale armies of 2 made Space marines feel more like marines to me. I loved both games massively for different reasons. Cant wait tonplay this one! Marshal Loss
Hmm. Pre-coffee takes: Can't say I'm pleased to see no Eldar or CSM, and Mech wouldn't have been my choice for a second Imperial faction. As somebody who's basically played DOW1 and its expansions since release (with a period spent on DOW2, and memory loss where DOW3 should be), it's strange to see e.g. Primaris and Newcrons drag the franchise into the present. Trailer was fine, bit early to judge gameplay but it didn't pump me up. In the pantheon of DOW trailers/cinematics it falls behind 1, 2 & 3 without question in my mind. Happy to see John French behind the story. I've got pretty low expectations for this based on the developer, but it's still exciting to have this and (hopefully) Total War 40k on the horizon. We'll see how things play out. darkhorse0607
Few thoughts -The remastered themes got me right in the nostalgia, I'm excited for the soundtrack regardless of how the game goes -Poor Cyrus, but I want to see Angelos or the others from DoW 2 -The art direction I'm 50/50 on. It's not as colorful as 3, not as muted as 2. I can live with it, but I'm curious to see if there will be any adjustments. The Necron weapon effects look good though, and the shot of the Repulsor firing at the end was cool. I'm also giving them a lot of leeway here because it isn't Relic. More than likely, they had to build this from the ground up, not take old assets and rebuild them. It won't look like Relic's DoW because it isn't Relic, time will tell how it launches though -Sync kills are back, this is good -Kronos is back, also good. It gives them an easy way to explain why everyone is there. Mechanicus was probably stealing from the Necrons as they do, Necrons wake up again, Orks are already there, etc. -The amount of units to command according to the shots of the UI is pretty high, and we can see the Ork building chain during their portion of the gameplay, looks more to align with DoW1 which is welcome -Commander abilities from Company of Heroes, not hardcore for or against it -70 campaign missions is a lot, making me believe it's four separate campaigns. Or I hope it'll be four separate campaigns. What I don't want is one big campaign where you rotate through the factions like 3 -There is a cover system, but with that many units I wonder if it'll land more towards DoW1 versus 2, my bet is 1 because of the amount of units but I'm not for/against either -The Meganobz look huge? Maybe it's an angle or when they get new models their size is going to beef up to Redemptor size, but that stuck out All in all, not for sure in the buy camp, but I'm encouraged. Again, I'm not holding the devs to the "this isn't Relics Dawn of War" standard, don't think that would be fair, at the very least though it looks like the devs did their homework *edit. I was right, there are four campaigns. There's also going to be Last Stand mode returning so straight from launch you get more than with DoW3 so that's good. PC Gamer had an article and will be putting up impressions tomorrow Edited 6 hours ago by darkhorse0607 more information Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/386542-dawn-of-war-iv-reveal-trailer/page/2/#findComment-6128754 Share on other sites
mecanojavi99
My 2 cents as someone who enjoys both DoW1 (specially Dark Crusade), DoW2 and that was actually okay with the campaign side of DoW3 This feels very much like a combination of all 3, we have the big armies and proper base building of DoW1 combined with some DoW gameplay elements (the energy and requisitions emblems on the minimap come straight from DoW2) like last stand, while the visuals seem to be closer to DoW3 but darker (look at the scene of the necrons walking towards the marines) We also have stuff like sync kills back so they seems to have moved away from the eSports mentality of DoW3 Overall I remains cautiously optimistic and hopeful that this does well enough to warrant expansions and DLCs, the more factions we can get in it the better. SkimaskMohawk
4 hours ago, Blindhamster said: Dawn of war 2 was the best, easily. People loved dow1 because it let them go off the rails with huge 40k armies mixed with RTS Sim city. The campaigns were also all really memorable for both good and bad reasons. Dow2s campaign was very hero and rpg focussed without the grand scale of 1, and that threw a lot of people off. But the multiplayer...man that was something special. The escalation of early tactical skirmishes into what felt like a full game of 1500 points was really fun.
