There is also some new gameplay in the video, including Imperial Guard.

  • Each faction will have their own unique resources.
  • The asymmetry between the factions will be noticeable - Space Marines will beat orks on a 1 to 1, but orks have a higher model count.
  • There is more Admech units and even artillery emplacements for the Imperial Guard.
  • He got to play around with the pop-cap and barely reached past 150 out of the overall 300.
  • Space Marines get access to Hammerfall bunkers to provide global defensive structures while Tarantula turrets are deployed around points.
  • Bunkers and sandbags return as cover.
  • All factions get access to command points to use on strategem abilities - similar to CoH's doctrines and commanders.
  • Veterancy is making a return.
  • Space Marines pretty much enjoy the Primaris upgrades, with assault squads starting out as ground-based melee before they can be upgraded with jump packs. A dedicated tech building to upgrade overall buffs for your troops.
  • Reinforcements are pretty much the same as Dawn of War 1.
  • Describes it as a medley of Dawn of War 1 & 2.
  • Imperial Guard are playable in select missions though they're not a full faction.
  • There's a proper cover system more akin to DoW2 or CoH.
  • Total War-style unit selection bar at the bottom of the UI.
  • A new "Reserve" system on the unit bar UI where you can build units from your base and then call them via drop pod. More convenient and good for reinforcement, but more expensive when doing so. Not sure if this feature is SM only or if the other factions have similar mechanics available.
  • Cyrus is a playable Commander unit.
  • Unit command and abilities play rather similar to DoW, including the ability to attach commanders to squads.
  • Adeptus Mechanicus are apparently all about "networking" where they get buffs for units and buildings in proximity, and also more vision-based abilities like seeing within fog-of-war.

Still watching, but they do still have the old drop pods with guns, which is hilarious.

Remember, no pre-orders. I say this after the Battlefield community got BF6 in top five sellers on Steam...

That game is at least playable. I'm fine with people preordering after they've at least tried the product. It's blind preordering off of a hype beast advert that gets me shaking my head in perplexity.

The change of Imperial Guard firing yellow bolts makes the game less readable at first glance. The Skitarii, Space Marines and Guardsmen all appear as if they are firing the same projectile from the same type of weapon. It's a bit of a nitpick but I don't like it. Effects wise the game doesn't seem all that much of a step up from Dawn of War 2, in some regards it almost seems like a step down in weapon impact and quality. Seems like all they did is add a bunch of fog and dust effects. To mention this again because it's more apparent in this footage, the units in this have no character, they just look like thoughtless 1:1 translations of the model from the tabletop to the game. The Eradicators are a pretty clear example because they are a carbon copy of the easy-to-build models from the starter set down to their Indomitus Crusade badge on the left arm. At a glance this doesn't look like the game for me. I'll wait for the reviews.

Agreed. Don't check where Black Ops 7 is on the top sellers list either...
