Well, the Daemon rules have pushed me over the edge to allies! Ordered a Daemon prince to run as my Hierarch.

I have always wanted an excuse to buy Belakor..... but then I will end up starting a Word Bearers army.

On the subject of Daemons, I previously noticed the Auxiliary Detachment for Brutes (like a Traitor Esoterist inherently unlocks 3 units of Brutes).  Waited for the rules, anticipated they'd have an Ogryn statline, then noticed their Immaterial melee weapons have AP3, so they're like those Solar Auxilia Bioshock Big Daddy Ogryns.

That makes Brutes decent anti-Power Armour melee, but any thoughts on their additional Chaos Dominion abilities?

In short, you guys think they're any good?  Mentioning it here because they're so easy to Ally with (via the Esoterist).

I actually don't rate the Esoterist, unless you're really strapped for points and need him to both unlock a marine aux detachment and give you Brutes. Otherwise would take a Harbinger, he unlocks your two brutes slots and can logistical benefit a third slot of something else if needed. And then he can summon one of those units for charging out of deep strike!

I agree with your assessment of Brutes though, they're a great marine-killer. Dominion-wise, if fluff doesn't dictate I'd say Rapturous Sensation maybe good for getting some distance coveter T1 (and unlocks decent disciplines for your HQs), alternatively Infernal Tempest for that sweet Aflame (1) to help ensure enemy runs away.

Not just AP3, they have D2 and breaching 5+ making them essentially terranic greatswords, so great all-round weapons.

Mechanicum Heterodox Cybertheurgists can guide them (any demon for that matter, but Brutes are the best target) and you can take a single magos as an ally without any tax units.

I'd stay away from deep striking them, they're almost always better off walking.
