I dont have the rules in front of me, New Recruit has them listed as Drop transports. Are they restricted to their 15" movement from the board edge like normal flyer transports? How do you drop troops off on the other side of the board from flyers? Kind of defeats the purpose of air lifting if you can barely get them out of your deployment zone and not even to the middle of the board. Am I not reading the rules correctly on them or flying transports in general? Im trying to figure out how to get a squad of terminators somewhere useful from a Dreadclaw.

They're bad, sadly, for all the reasons you described plus weak armaments, no heat blast, and to really rub it in, they're not even assault vehicles! Criminal, but they're losers in this edition's balance lottery.

If you must use them, your best bet is to hold them in reserve and try to get them into the enemy backfield/middle objective turns 2 or later.

I have fallen foul of them a couple of times. Even coming from your own deployment zone, that includes the short edge (on Dawn of War map), so if your opponent is careless and advances up the flank you've got reasonably good odds of a T1 charge.

Even if they're not careless, it means you've forced them to cede the flanks - which they may not be able to do all game simply for fear of the dreadclaw, so you'll get them eventually.
