Quinn: The defining feature of the Imperialis Militia across previous editions of the Horus Heresy has always been the Provenances of War, a set of selectable archetypes which help theme the army and shape unit construction. With the newest version of the list, we’ve tried to make this element as permissive and accessible as possible – all Provenances are cross-compatible, and while you can only pick one as standard, all it takes to get access to a second is including a Force Commander in your army, who can even be taken in allied detachments with the Special Assignment prime benefit.

 

Typically, Provenances add a passive benefit to your units and unlock access to optional upgrades to theme your model collection, helping players counteract some of the inherent vulnerabilities of the Militia list.

 

The list itself is still a grab-bag of options designed to appeal to kitbashers, even including new units to better account for the selection of civilian Imperial vehicles that are now available as miniatures. It makes use of the full range – if you’ve ever wanted to make an abhuman army using Necromundan Squats miniatures, this is the list for you!

While remaining a hobbyist’s army at heart, the Militia list is still intended to be fun and rewarding to play with, even if it lacks some of the competitive edge of other armies – after all, asking levied conscripts to fight Space Marines is a tall order… 

 

In addition to the Provenances of War letting you really lean into a specific playstyle or cover vulnerabilities, the Irregulars special rule lets most Militia units score objectives for reduced Victory points even when they’re Pinned, Stunned, or Suppressed. This represents the ‘forlorn hope’ role of such forces during the Age of Darkness, acting to delay or distract hosts that far outmatched them in power, and it comes in very handy when most of your models lack the Leadership and Cool Characteristics of a trained soldier.

Its pretty much the Imperial Guard we used to have in 40k. I quite like it. It even brought back the frikkin Gorgon! I might have to do an allied list of Velatarius and these guys for my Elysians and my Praetorian hoard with their twin Gorgons each carrying 45 dudes.

Seems overall, pretty solid. A pleasant surprise. More flavor than the marine books by a mile.

 

Only real complaint (besides lack of bomb collars) is that GW has really over valued hordes this edition. Thralls and Levy are extremely overpriced. Anything with a regen/come back mechanic are generally overpriced... especially in this new 4 turn format.

Ok, so some of the Provenance and unties are clearly designed as a way to use specific Necromander or 40k kits. However some I am less sure on.

 

The Industrial Rig I inittialy assumed to be the GSC Goliath Truck/ Rockgrinder and the Mining Rig options line up with the Truck kit nicely. However the Explorator Rig I am a little unsure of, for building/converting three Goliaths I don’t recall how or where there is a hull mounted heavy flamer or a twin heavy stubber (that is in any way turret mounted). And then I though ‘oh is this a chimera chaises with a dozer blade’ but that doesn’t explain the twin heavy stubber.

 

So any clue what the Explorator Rig’ intended conversion start point kit is supposed to be.

 

 

For the All Terrain Patrol the first thought  was the GSC quad from the Atalan box, or maybe the Orlock outriders. But what are the trikes? Goliaht Maulers? Essher Cutters??

This actually seems interesting and flavorful, unlike the hot mess in the Libers. I’m actually rather shocked.

You once again anticipated my question about Levvy Troops with the Rite of Pure Thought or whatever, for a cheeky little Objective unit or something.

 

On the other hand...interesting thoughts about Allied Squat Bikes and stuff, oh my.  Very interesting.

Actually I'm looking at this and boy does that look like an AdMech Vehicle.

Oh my silly brain, I actually have one of them (unbuilt).  

 

So I am 2 for 2 on units I could not work out that are Squat that I actualy own the models for.

Those have their own unit entry.

It is called Militia trike shocking enough. ;)

I really like that they included these units. Those trikes for example look great and I always fancied having them in my armies. 

Now could be the time.

Third line really isnt that big of a deal either this edition with every AT gun and its mother having Armorbane already. The one game I have played, the only thing that even damaged my vehicles was melta and lascannons. I did nuke a Rhino with autocannons so I guess there is that.
