Okay, we've had mixed success with the themed banners, but I want to give it another shot. Within the Warhammer 40,000 hobby community, October is affectionately known as "Orktober." We're going to go with that theme. Your banner should reflect the Orky race in all its warlike glory. You can include "Bolter and Chainsword" or "Bolter & Chainsword" or "B&C" as text. Alternatively, you may feature "Orktober" or something else suitably Orky.

 

You can submit your banner entry by uploading your image to the site banner submissions gallery and posting a reply in this discussion showing both the image, the image URL, and a link to your blog (if applicable). You can see more information about the banner of the month here.

 

The winner will be selected by the community in a poll.

 

The deadline for submissions will be Tuesday, 23 September (i.e., whenever I log in on the morning of Wednesday, 24 September*).

 

 

 

* Or whenever I get around to it since I'm old and forget things.

Just a suggestion for people doing banners. If anyone has the board extended out (you can change that setting in your profile), the current banners all have a harsh line between the end of the banner and the black background. 

 

 

In the past, when @madscuzzy or @BLOODSAINT were doing the banners, they all had a black fade on the far right side (if their background wasn't black already) to make that transition a little less jarring.

I've been hemming and hawing on this all day. I opened the site this morning with the intent of loading @Ioldanach's banner since, as far as I knew, it was the only submission, albeit after the original posted deadline. And then I saw @apologist's. Granted, those were submitted not only after the deadline, but also after the banner was supposed to start in the rotation. All are nice banners, however, and any would be great in the rotation. My dilemma was the tension between deadlines (late vs. later) and fair competition (voting among the submissions to pick a winner). In the end, I've decided to go with the basic deadlines. Since @Ioldanach's was submitted prior to start date/time for the winning banner, his wins by default. @apologist's (one of them, anyways) will appear next Orktober.

 

@Kurgan the Lurker: thanks. I'll incorporate that into the guidance - not just for the banner of the month, but for any site banner. How many pixels of fade, minimum, do you recommend?
