I saw this on Reddit, it does indeed look like they used a photo of the 28mm one in the new LI book, maybe this is the first time seeing this model?

Is that not a re-used photomontage from imperial armour vol 2?

It's different from the whirlwind in IA2 second edition book, I don't have the first edition though. The missile section is a different shape and the deimos version has it's own entry in the book and the pictures of that are the current plastic kit. So this version is new to me

Considering the plastic and metal Whirlwind was the first GW box set I owned after my mail order promotional, this is deeply nostalgic to me. I love this thing. There has been many iterations of the Whirlwind over the years, and nostalgia aside for the 2nd edition version, I think this is one of the best.

I'm still sad nobody has made a G.I. Joe wargame...(though a mate of mine is doing a rather fantastic line of printable skeletal/undead IG proxies called "G.I. Bones")

Anyway, I'm very happy to see this. I love the old RT "official conversions" and the Whirlwind is no exception. Between this and the missile turrets they put out fitting on the Scorpius turret-ring (and hopefully this one too!) allowing for a modern 2E style Whirlwind it's a good time to be a fan of 2E and older vehicle designs!
