I am planning on taking a trip to Warhammer World next year, for the first time. Having never been to Warhammer World I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice on visiting. I live in the States so this will probably be the only time I’m able to visit. Should I plan to spend the entire day there? Do people have any suggestions on other places to visit in the area?

I was thinking that I’d see about visiting Warlord and Perry Miniatures as well (I haven’t yet researched if that’s something people can do). I’d love to also visit any museums in the area so any recommendations would be appreciated. Pub recommendations are also welcome; I will of course visit Bugman’s.

Please give me advice and recommendations. Thank you.

Hi @Shovellovin!

I was there this July, from Italy.

I think you will be ok with just half of the day there. If you are not planning to gaming you will have enough time to visit the exhibitions, browse the shop and even drink/eat something.

The exhibitions are large and took most of my time but because I want to. Watch out on this page for changes in the schedules. Sometimes some of the areas of Warhammer World are close for a short period of time.

For exclusives and special gift you can email them and they will send you a priced list with all the is exclusive of the warhammer world.

There is booze at bugman's and you can buy it to take it home. It's a bit pricey (6 quids for a beer if I remember correctly) but it's a great gift or memento.

I will let other Fraters to speak about anything else in the area of Nottingham 'cause I'm no expert .

I’ve been 2,5 times (two separate journeys, on the first of which we visited two days in a row). It’s definitely possible to spend an entire day there, especially if you want to hang out in the shops for a while.

The highlight for me was definitely the exhibition/warhammer museum and you can easily spend several hours there - in fact, I think I’d recommend going through it slowly and stopping for lunch (at Bugman’s, of course) halfway through. Trying to take it all in without a break might be a bit overwhelming and/or you might not enjoy the last exhibits as much.

Apart from that, the shops are well stocked and there are some exclusive goodies, if that’s your thing (I got the Rogue Trader and Realm of Chaos books there, but there are also minis and merchandise), so it’s worth setting some time aside for that too.

I didn’t play while I was there, but I did enjoy wandering around the gaming area and looking at the tables, especially the custom built ones, so I’d definitely recommend spending at least a little time there too, even if you’re not going to play.

Bugman’s is nice too, of course, albeit with fewer themed menu items than I’d hoped (it’s been a little over five years since I was there, so this might/might not have changed). Still it’s perfectly serviceable pub food and they serve coffee and cake too, if you’re more into that. It’s definitely a fun place to visit, so set time aside for that too.

Hello @Shovellovin!

As a fellow American that had the pleasure of going this year as part of my Honeymoon in the UK, I’m glad I went!  And it was like the only thing we did in Nottingham the day we were there as we were traveling up from London to Nottingham, then York and continuing towards Scotland.

Unfortunately Bugman’s was undergoing renovations when we went. But I still had a blast, the wife liked the displays but we ended finding so many Warhammer stores (unplanned) during our honeymoon it became a game for me at least.  I was able to pick up so Warhammer World Exclusives while there. I think a day or two is good there we spent 4 hours or so there. Depends on who you are going with.

Nottingham castle is 15 minutes away also (that’s where near where we stayed) and it was closed when we got back to the hotel.

Here’s my blog about it. And well the other stores along the way too.

I would love to have taken more pics but I took a ton and was ready for a pint and a nap.

I’m not a proper local but the things to do my side of Nottingham, within an hour or so’s drive that’ll tickle your cultural strings:

- Warwick castle

- Stratford-upon-Avon (home of Shakespeare and has nice bakeries, generally quite nice) his original house is still there and open to visitation, very interesting IMO

- Mary Arden’s Farm

- Kenilworth Castle - it’s like Warwick castle but got slighted in the Civil War and is a lot cheaper to visit, or at least it was last time I went

- There’s some Roman ruins dotted about as well.

look at English-heritage.org.uk there’s a whole host of places all over the country from stately homes to castles etc. depends what you really want to see tbh.

I would definitely hire a car though or you’re going to spend your Titan fund in Ubers or waiting for buses and trains that aren’t going to be in time and are hellishly expensive, with a 50% chance of being cancelled half way through the trip and kicking you off.

Sounds like a cool trip!

As others have said - half a day is probably enough to do most of what you’d do there, unless you’re playing a game (which is also a lot of fun as some of their boards are amazing). Bugman’s is worth checking out, for sure.

There’s plenty of other things to do in Nottingham city centre, which is very close by.

If you’re looking for pubs, you HAVE to do Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem  - it lays claims to being the oldest existing pub in the world, opening in 1189. It’s also a 2 minute walk from Nottingham castle which has just been refurbished. You can also walk around the Park (not an actual park, just a really nice gated community full of gorgeous old buildings and the last gas lit lampposts in Europe).

There’s also a cave network running under the entire city which you can explore and do tours of.

If you want any other ideas, feel free to drop me a DM!

One thing to be aware of is that Bugmans gets very busy on event days. I took my daughter a couple of months ago and there was an HH event on. We went to Bugman's and got told there was a 2 hour wait for food and they had run out of most things like burgers. Maybe I was just unlucky but they don't seem to lay on extra staff or supplies for busy days.

Was it an official event? For the events I've been to, the ticket includes lunch and you go into the staff canteen rather than Bugmans for precisely this reason. Admittedly they've all been weekend tournaments, but they do seem to have a system in place for official events.

Doesn't change the fact it sucked for you and your daughter though - my experiences there have always been good!
