firestorm40k
Greetings Frater I was fortunate enough to get a copy of the new Kill Team Tomb World set, after putting my name down at one of my FLGS. I bought this for the Necron miniatures and (especially) the terrain - I've split the Deathwatch with a friend from my gaming group. I've not had a chance to look at the rules in the book, nor have I started putting any of the miniatures together - I've jumped straight in to the terrain. Having built a full set of Boarding Actions (2x Gallowdark) terrain, I've got to say - these are much easier to work with. The wall sections tend to only have one part to stick on (the other side of a pillar) - and the best part is that, unlike the Gallowdark/Boarding Actions terrain, everything fits together easily without sanding or filing of contact points. The only repetitive part of the build is the 16 column sides, which each come in two pieces. I had a go at putting it all together in one of the layouts from the book - as I said, the fact the contact points fit without any filing etc means it goes together well; but with the same issue that it can be time consuming matching the correct pieces, the correct way round as the layout in the mission. (I think this is Co-op layout 3 of 6). My plan is to do a 'quick' paint job with three different coloured sprays - and lots of masking tape I'll post pics when I get round to painting them, but my initial reaction is: I really like this terrain Edited September 14 by firestorm40k Corrected which map number it is Dr_Ruminahui, Brother Tyler, Rusted Boltgun and 3 others 5 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/386679-kill-team-tomb-world-necron-terrain-review/ Share on other sites
zulu.tango
Sounds like an improvement from the Gallowdark connection system! I'd be interested to hear how you feel like they fit together after you paint them! Without the top caps I'm a little afraid that the walls will want to pull away from the pillar pieces given enough wear...but the ease of assembly definitely overwhelms those concerns. gaurdian31 and firestorm40k 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/386679-kill-team-tomb-world-necron-terrain-review/#findComment-6132311 Share on other sites

firestorm40k
So today I've started painting this terrain set; forstly, prime black, then zenithal two shades of green. For the most part the pieces still fit together well after a coat of paint: There are one or two parts that didn't push together as well as the rest; also, those corner pillars seem to fit loose rather than snug, so they can get pushed apart easily when trying to assemble a wall layout: In the case of the pillars, I don't just think it's to do with paint - they fit at an angle so the force of pushing the other walls together or into them, actually forces the column apart. Next will be adding Wraithbone to the pillars and scatter; my plan is to block in colours, add a wash to everything, then pick out details and glowing bits. zulu.tango
The capped pillars in ITD ended up being a huge pain unless wall pieces were filed down, so I understand why they adapted to having pillars without the caps....but the fact that they push apart so easily is a bit concerning. Thanks for posting your findings @firestorm40k, its given me a lot to consider before I start working on my own set. firestorm40k 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/386679-kill-team-tomb-world-necron-terrain-review/#findComment-6133593 Share on other sites
Brother Tyler
How easy do you think they would be to magnetize? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/386679-kill-team-tomb-world-necron-terrain-review/#findComment-6134571 Share on other sites

So where the wall ends go in to the holes on the pillars, I think you could possibly replace the circular connection point with a magnet - you'd perhaps only be able to do this on the columns that you assemble, or the wall sections that require a column stuck on one part. Unless you're happy to start drilling out the circular connection point on those wall sections where the columns are sculpted on..! I think the trickiest part to magnetised would be the seperate columns - at least, so two parts are attached to form a single column. Because of the angle they attach, I'm not sure where you'd be able to put the magnet In short, I think it's possible to magnetise this terrain, but it might be tricky in some parts. Someone with a good amount of hobby and practical building skill should be able to work it out though!
