TBH Valrak seems to be always right and to such a degree with all the rumours, that i think he is in the league with GW at this point.

They couldn't afford me.

Praise be, definetly going to try and get the Victrix Guard +characters. Wait for the Terminator Ancient for an individual release

weird that the Ultramarines book that they previewed a while back isn't also this weekend

Hmm I want the new UM characters but I may wait till I clear some of the backlog first, otherwise they'll still be sitting there this time next year. Nice to see them dropping now though, I kinda figured they'd be part of whatever the end narrative is.

I guess we won't have to wait long to discover whether the Gravis Calgar and his unique bodyguard unit will remain as a valid HQ option.

Edit:

This implies he'll keep both:

Article claiming Calgar can join almost any Infantry Squad. Makes me wonder what shenanigans we can pull. (Assuming of course the article writer isn't outright wrong)

Gravis Calgar can already join almost anyone (except Terminators) so there is good precedent for this. No sure this will allow us to do much that we cannot do already with him though.

Happy that the article has confirmed we can run them in units of 6. I wonder if they'll require a character like company Heroes, or if we'll get to run them as is? Either or I'm buzzing, they're stunning centrepiece models that will look stunning in the army and providing they have some decent melee and shooting (I'm assuming they'll have damage 2 bolters and axes? 3/4 wounds a piece and a 2+ save seem likely) they'll be perfect.

I suspect we might only be keeping the Gravis version until next edition as he and his groupies disappeared from the UK webstore a couple of weeks ago.

Interesting question. Inner Circle Companions and Sanguinary Guard (the DA and BA bodyguard squads) can both be run on their own so there is precedent to be able to run them independently. In fact Company Heroes are a bit of an oddball unit in requiring a Captain

That is a good point. It could all change in a year when the 11th edition SM codex drops.

Yeah this is possible. But it's worth noting that the Chaos Legionaries disappeared from the store as well for some time, and have now returned after a re-boxing.

Is gravis Calgar on his own sprue? Reboxing him without Victrix would match the new Terminator Calgar.

No, not quite. But his Honour Guard could be renamed so they don't clash with the full Victrix kit.

His heads are on the sprue with the Victrix Guard on, so makes it impossible to sell him separately without recutting the sprue (which seems extremely unlikely now he's got a separate dedicated kit)

Wouldn't mind seeing the sword/shield bodyguards disappear. Leave some sort of niche for Blade Guard to do,. Though if you're an Ultramarines collector you may want to get ahold of a few of those shields for your kitbashes. Or use them in your new Victrix Guar squads, doesn't really matter HOW they get their invulnerable saves or what guns they gave stowed under those big old cloaks.

I would have expected this release to be coming with a new codex; quite strange to be dropped at such a time.

Space Marines get jealous when a new army launches for any GW game.

Suspect the Calgar Mini will be my first 40k purchase* in a very long time. Really great mini, I think.

*not for parts or use in Heresy

A while ago there were rumors of next edition being focused on successors and their characters so considering that possiblity I think it makes sense that GW would like to have every main chapter on the same level before focusing on successor chapters which have been suspiciously missing from all these updates, you cannot tell me that GW will simply squat someone as important and iconic as Pedro Kantor and leave it in the trash bin forever!

Wazdakka and Yarrick say hi.

A second Codex with ~9 months of an edition to go is something I really hope we have moved past.

I'd say so far so good with that, especially since the last time it happened was 2019 if I recall.

I'm kind of surprised there have been no rules previews (as of yet) for these new kits. Unless I am totally blind and have missed them!

Haven't seen anything either. There WAS an update for the new Kill Team stuff for Necrons (it's fine, nothing mind blowing) and Deathwatch (absolutely awful).
