I am very torn on Sicarius... the model is good, very good.

But it weirdly seems more arrogant and grandstanding than his old model... idk, it doesn't radiate who Sicarius is in the current lore. I kind of expected a more subdued, world-weary model... this doesn't really convey his 'nihilistic contempt for everything and sardonically rolling with it' aura.

I am going to guess this means UMs are going to ironically end up being a fully fledged splinter Marine faction now (can't really say non-Compliant)... which is more or less what I want for all the bloodlines anyway (a few unique chars and a bloodline-specific unit).

Dual gladius is such an unreasonably cool thing, love it. Axes are also welcomed, a nice reversion to 30k.

The models look okay. I'm not overly impressed personally. Thankfully they will be much better when converted to Imperial Fists which shouldn't be too hard.

I just feel bad for all the other characters that actually deserved an updated model. Not too mention certain factions still waiting for the other half of their army to turn up. It's just such an unnessacary release.

My personal review.

New Calgar: not bad but I need to see it in person

New Sicarius: an excellent update

New Victrix Guard: DEaR EMPEROR ON HIS GOKDEN THRONE I AM IN LOVE!!!!

Ahem…

I foresee some expenditures in my future.

These new models look amazing, a perfect modern recreation of their classic minis. But it's still weird that Calgar gets a new model in terminator armour and the gravis one is deprecated...

Also, Sicarius should have a beard in the current timeline, IIRC?

regarding the level of marine support versus other factions, we are in a much better place than we were a decade ago. multiple guard updates, a substantial sisters range, eldar updates, and cool one-offs like Navy Breachers, I have complaints with current 40k trends, but the amount of non-marine support isnt one of them,

You're probably right, it's most likely recency bias on my part, all the marine stuff since wolves seems like one big run in my head and it feel like a lot.

I am sorry GW for ever complaining about not updating the Ultramarines when the other first founding recently all got boxes and a new character . These new models are amazing and well worth the wait.

Hats off to the designers and painters at GW. They all did great.

Those are all internal values which you can't really represent on his model without clashing with his actual rank, which necessitates a certain amount of bling.

That said we can always paint him with a stubble and bags under his eyes.

I can't seem to find the Gravis version of Calgar on the web store.

They removed it, no longer available, which would indicate Antilochus Calgar and co are going to arrive sooner than we might think.

I've long felt like the modern Ultramarines collect all of GW's gaudiest and least legible design tendencies into one unfortunate place, and this...continues to be true. Kind of a shame, the Gravis Calgar managed to depart from that and look like a humanoid form in armor, rather than an indistinguishable pile of bling.

Helmet on that dual-wielding Champion looks neat, tho.

There's genuinely so much STUFF there that it makes me wnder if we're going to get a Codex: Ultramarines. Especially with the Vitrix Guard being multi-purpose like that.

Give us a Malum Caedo though.

Of course, Sicarius has gold plated knee flanges. :laugh:

I don't understand GW and their constant push for that. Like, is it a design demand a chief executive brought from up on high or something?

Or does the IP team go "knee flanges give us complete creative control over our Space Marines, as no one else for some reason puts them onto their flagship models. Or history for that matter. We're finally unique."

Ha ha.

His gravis model is still available on the US website.

That is a lot of writing for; Marneus Calgar, Chapter Master of the Ultramarines has more than one suit in his armoury.

Now I kind of want Calgar in Phobos and Tacticus as well, just for the fun of it.

Considering how many versions he's had compared to any other named space marine character.

I see no reason not to give him a full wardrobe...... I'll go for the roman Toga version!

I definitely agree the Ultramarines are over decorated. should have got the Space Wolves less-is-more memo. Like the Head Takers (and Inner Circle Companions and Sword Brethren) are just right. We now live in a world where Ultramarines are more gaudy then Space Wolves.

I think you're crazy lol

The victrix are no more over the top. in fact they have similar details in similar placements.

Hell if you look carefully, two on them have the same base leg & body poses (and the other has the blood claw pack leader pose!)

The Victrix have way more ornate helmets on top of anything else. On top of filigree everywhere, there are 7 or 8 horseshoes on every model and more ornate weapons (also covered with horseshoes). To say nothing of the dual wielder, the ancient, and Cato who dial it even further. Edit: and the capes are much longer and the knees and legs have more iconography.

While a good mini I still consider the new Calgar rather unnecessary.

Sicarius is really good but the lack of a helmeted head annoys me.

The Victrix/Command Squad is the biggest win out of this, but I'm curious how this will work rules wise, I imagine Victrix Guard will once again be a standalone unit instead of forming a unit with Calgar.

Here's hoping GW also updates the Tyrannic War Veterans

Literal honour guard to chapter high command (including primarch) may be slightly more decorated than other chapters non-body guard elites.

Shocker.
