Would have been nice if they released a Jump Chaplain. Glad to see a captain with a Thunder Hammer though.

Since it didn't go away I assume it's gonna come out sooner rather than later...

I have no issue with the pose being similar. It's a human shape in armour, using a jump-pack swinging a heavy weapon.

The models should look similar. The real disappointment should be coming from the fact that they just couldn't give one mini all the options.

I think people would have been happy to pay more for an extra sprue if we could build every variant of wargear.

I genuinely think the original intention for the JP Captain having the TH&SS options was because you were meant to be able to use the Primaris VanVet arms on the guy but those were delayed and we got this to tide us over.
Either that or the Primaris TH&SS didn't have a finalised design when the JP Captain was made.

With the foot infantry slowly moving away from the primaris design aesthetic it's interesting to see how long the jet boots and flappy jet packs will last. I'll give them another 5 years before they release a more classical design on a kit. Maybe that's wishful thinking because as it stands I'm buying the old jump packs and kit bashing to create my assault and vanguard units, it just isn't the aesthetic I like on my Imperials. I do like this model otherwise though.

I don't think anything is moving away from the Primaris look, I just think we're finally getting the more ornate veterans units for all chapters that look more unique.

Everything is still clearly MkX.

They are using more older armour parts now though, and similar decorations to classic marine designs.

They are also doing direct updates of classic units like terminators which are clearly not MkX.

Definitely not replacing MkX just yet, but the trend back to classic marine looks is there.  Long may it continue.

I doubt we're ever going to fully "go back" to MkVII Armour but it's nice to see that GW have realised they wrote lore saying the MkX was the most modular Space Marine Armour ever made so that means they can put bits of older Armour Marks in as well 'cause modularity.

Not in mainline 40k no, but at some point it will also move on from MkX armour as well.

I’m sorry if this is a dumb question, but when is Warhammer day again? And when I I have to order this dude and the Chaos dude to make sure I get them?

Not sure of the actual date, late October apparently. But the jump captain is going to be a standard range item, so you'll be able to grab it at any point after that.

I mean, the model is great I just wish we only had 1 Jump Captain with all the options

its annoying they both don't have all the options - but i love that there is two models. miss the old days of multiple chaplains/librarians models so you could have unique ones if running multiple, or just choose the one you want.

The advantage of having the wargear spread across 2 different minis is that you can run 2 different poses if you want multiple Jump Captains.

Sure but the disadvantage is that thanks to GWs asinine apparent policy of kit locking loadouts, mixing and matching Wargear across the two kits isn't going to be permitted, which is what leads to insane and convoluted Loadout restrictions.

I think those details you mention are a great improvement over the older jump troop design. They make the models look more functional and interesting.

And I don’t think they’re moving away from primaris aesthetic, aside from adding some variety.

We don't actually know this yet. Current Jump Captains can wield both sets of armaments that these two models can show, in a single datasheet.

Yes, but my point is that you cannot take a relic shield with a power weapon or a power fist, nor can you take a thunder hammer with a pistol.

Now obviously the idea solution to this would be a return to the weapon lists of yore, however since GW aren't going to let up on the "you take only what's in the box" mandate, then it would be nice if we got to at least have a bit of freedom with the few options left to us, and for that to happen, it would apparently have to be in a single kit.

Between this guy, the MPK Terminator Captain, and Feirros, we really seem to have found ourselves in a bold new era where Captains suddenly don't need cloaks to remind us who's in charge.

The bling giveth, the bling taketh away.

(Then again, maybe Cato just stole all three of their cloaks to make the quilt he's draped in).
