Hello everyone,

I've just recently got back into warhammer after a few decade hiatus.

I have a small collection of Dark Elves from the 90s. But now I am obsessed with the Black Templar miniatures, and the entire 40k lore.

Never played a tabletop game, but would definitely like to.

Be good to talk with people interested in, and knowledgeable of the hobby.

Thanks

Welcome to the B&C!  The Black Templars and their eternal crusade are a fine choice to obsess on.  Being visually striking in appearance and the lore of their last stand at Helsreach during the 3rd Armageddon war have always made them stand out to me. And, while I do not look at the 40k parts of the forum very often, they used to have a very passionate community here. You’ll be in great company.

Take a look at the forums and jump into a conversation. The Adeptus Astartes forum and Black Templars subforum might be good ones to start with.

Lore, game play, list building, painting, and other topics all get discussed in different spots. Is there a topic in particular you’re most interested in to start?

Thanks. Well i have this thirst for knowledge at the moment. I have so many questions but I'll start with just two.

Am I correct in saying the old warhammer fantasy Dark Elves have been eradicated from the universe?

And I've brought a combat patrol box for the black templars, along with a few other bits. I have just made them look cool, not really following the instructions.

I had no intention of playing a game,  but now I regret that decision.

My question is, will a codex detail what weapons are suitable for each miniture? So I can make they battle ready.

I dread the idea of spending time and effort building an army that will be rejected due to non conformity with the required spec.

Or am I over thinking it?

Thanks

They are no longer in the new Age of Sigmar, however, GW is working through a Warhammer Fantasy reboot as a separate game, Warhammer: The Old World.

The Black Templars have a lot more leeway in their units than some others, so you might be ok, but yes typically there is a standard loadout. Additionally, Combat Patrol is also its own game with fixed options, so playing that version should be ok regardless of how the models are built as long as you follow the Rules for the CP.

(I also don't game and build rule of cool too).

Usually the unit, rather than individual models outside of characters. So any loadout the are in excess of what is allowed can be rolled into new squads as you expand.

Generally this will only be a problem if you intend on playing competitively, otherwise, explaining any differences between the model, and the actual rules of a model prior to a game to your opponent will using be acceptable.

Welcome back

I think the hobby hiatus will be a familiar story to many of us here; I myself had 5-7 years or so, where I wasn’t really in the hobby at all without actively quitting it, so let me just say that in my experience it’s even better the second time around -although you might occasionally find yourself longing for the good old days when the sun shone a little brighter and Space Marine miniatures were practically given away at the local game store…

I heartily recommend playing a few games if you can find someone likeminded to play with, who’s not too concerned with winning and who enjoys the setting in the same way you do. But if not, just collecting, painting and obsessing over the lore is perfectly fine too!
