BrotherCaptainArkhan
Long, long time since I've posted on the B&C. I used to play and collect 40k about a decade ago, some might remember my old Sons of Tyr log and "A Lesser Son of Greater Fathers", my Heresy Ultramarines log. I've been enticed back in to doing something in the 41st millennium again by the advent of the Astartes short (and its sequel), the Secret Level episode and Space Marine II. Absolutely wild growing up with a hobby as niche as Warhammer and now seeing it in the proverbial mainstream. Anyway, without much ado I've been looking at jumping into some narrative games set in the modern 40k setting. I don't know yet what my group is going to use for a ruleset - we're pretty narrative-heavy and focussed largely on non-GW games - but Kill Team has gathered some interest, not least of all for the smaller scale and the chance to tell some character-focussed stories. My offering will be focussed around a Chapter of the Adeptus Astartes bearing suspiciously familiar heraldry who find themselves on the wrong side of the Cicatrix Maledictum...and more than likely, facing the very real prospect of their own mortality as a host of existential threats pile on their doorstep. So rage, rage against the dying of the light, and let fly the Sons of the Condor... Dr_Ruminahui
Is that your model? He's gorgeous. That said, the image with the background is a bit fuzzy - for readability, you might want to post the text as text rather than as part of an image. Yes he is, wouldn't post others' work without their permission. Yes, the Index sizes up if you click on it but I'd already made it fairly spontaneously so didn't fancy reformatting for a text post. I was going to try and recreate the old Index Astartes style but couldn't find much in the way of templates, so made my own. All in the name of fun, at the end of the day. 7 hours ago, Shard of Magnus said: I remember your heresy Ultramarines. Ma’ingan looks fantastic! space wolf
Yes, i daresay i will greatly enjoy this thread. Looking forward to what you do next. On the painting side: your weathering is really great. Really adds interest to the stark B&W paintscheme! BrotherCaptainArkhan
Thanks guys. Da'rok is now done, joining his brother Ma'ingan as the two Assault Intercessor proxies in Thunder Cadre. Da'rok will be the grenadier specialist - I didn't want to Flanderise too much so went with the red krak grenade as an easy identifier on the tabletop. Next up - two more brothers, this time both veterans - one of the Deathwatch, and one of the Sternguard. The Deathwatch veteran will be run as a Heavy Gunner in Kill Team, and the Sternguard vet, running an unusual sub-pattern of Stalker bolter, will be an Intercessor Gunner. BrotherCaptainArkhan
So I was looking at the assembled models last night and decided I wanted the last member of the Kill Team (before the Command model - whoever that is) to be a regular Tactical Marine. Naught but a bolter, guts and glory. I also went back and looked at the Deathwatch veteran, Brother Sur'gesh, and decided his weapon just didn't quite cut it. I wanted something that reflected the Devastator veteran's service in the Deathwatch, with just a tinge of the weird esotericism that comes with a posting in the mysterious organisation. So I added a purity seal first of all, to give the sense that the weapon has been personalised a little by its owner, and added on an extra laser designator on the side of the gun as well as, somewhat anachronistically, an underslung grenade launcher. To the best of my knowledge, there is no way to represent this in Kill Team, so I'm just keeping it for the 'rule of cool'. I figured it could be used to launch a smoke grenade or other type of utility grenade or something. firestorm40k, Rockybaerboa, Kurgan the Lurker and 10 others 11 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/386704-the-sons-of-the-condor/#findComment-6133171 Share on other sites
space wolf
Yep the underslung grenade launcher (M203) looks great! Completely impractical, which is so 40k on a good way! BrotherCaptainArkhan
Thanks guys! I'm really enjoying this project. Last in the Kill Team is the Veteran Sergeant leading the Sons of the Condor force. I've got plans to do other leaders - a Captain, and a Librarian (who might have to be proxied as I don't think they're in Kill Team yet) - but for now, this will be my team's leader during intro games. I went back and forth a lot with the pose and settled on a 'watchful rest' pose, which I think communicates gravitas better than some of the more active stances I'd played with. gaurdian31, Brother Captain Vakarian, The Pounder and 8 others 9 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/386704-the-sons-of-the-condor/#findComment-6133520 Share on other sites

BrotherCaptainArkhan
The Imgur block in the UK has made hosting images a little difficult, but hopefully you can see this. After a few intense days with little hobby, I sat down to complete Condor #3 - Ituha, the Oak. I imagined Ituha as a very stalwart, stoic archetype of the Tactical marine. He'll be an Intercessor Warrior in Kill Team. BrotherCaptainArkhan
Took the chance to do a quick group pic thus far as well and see if it's vaguely consistent. Think it'll be a decent looking squad once done. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't vaguely tempted at the idea of a full force... firestorm40k, MoriyaSchism, Rusted Boltgun and 9 others 5 7 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/386704-the-sons-of-the-condor/#findComment-6134543 Share on other sites

BrotherCaptainArkhan
Cheers @Firedrake Cordova. It's nice being back in M41... Polished off Sur'gesh. I envisaged him as a Chapter warrior who was selected for Deathwatch secondment, and returned during the Tyranid attacks on the Condor homeworld. By rights, he should have obtained Veteran status, but the urgency of the situation has not allowed for the proper rites to be held. Until then, he serves in Thunder Cadre. BrotherCaptainArkhan
Speeding along - Naawas, the squad marksman, all finished - and possibly my favourite so far! Naawas was a bit of an experiment; I've been using Godwyn pattern bolters in this project to date, and wanted to see if I could recreate the Godwyn's physical profile with Primaris bolt rifle parts. I viscerally dislike the bolt rifle and its iterations for being far too long and awkward-shaped, so this was an experiment in cutting down to size. It worked pretty well with the addition of some custom sights and a drum mag to obscure some of the joins. Definitely going to try again in future! MoriyaSchism
That sergeant is the standout miniature. Power axes are really underrated and I usually associate them with honour guards. I love how you used old armour parts and weapons. What's the story behind the daggers they have?
