Some of you may have been paying attention and noticed that quite a few members have received the Legio Mini-Me badge (126547410_ZZ-LegioMiniMe.gif.c1a16a692979e6b11fa17358fcf69791.gif) over the last week. And if any of you looked closely, you'll have noticed that most of these members haven't been active on the site in years. Alternatively, you may have looked in + THE LEGIO BOLTER AND CHAINSWORD + forum (since it now appears near the top of the site in the ++ COMMUNITY ++ category) and noticed that a lot of the older topics therein have disappeared. And if you have any level of curiosity, you may have wondered what's going on.

Add to that the fact that I'm working on a Legio kill team, as seen in my blog here. Now my project doesn't drive the project that will be coming soon, but the planning I did for my project forced me to take a look at the Legio over the years. Two things I wanted to do were:

  1. Not invalidate any Legio mini-me's that have been submitted over the years (and these go back to 2002 when we had a slightly different scheme than the one you might be familiar with), and
  2. Give hobbyists a little more flexibility in what they can do, especially since this is an expensive hobby and not everyone can afford to just go out and buy models that they won't use on the tabletop

So we have been working on an update to the Legio, and that update will inform the little project that will be happening SoonTM. All of the cleaning up and rewarding of old work has been in preparation for this update and the attendant project. Have no fear, the Legio isn't changing substantively - it will still be very close to what you may be used to (assuming you have any familiarity with the lore we have established for it over the years). We're just improving the article a bit and giving a better real-world explanation of the Legio and its purpose for the community. I don't want to spoil things, however, so I'll just leave you with this little teaser.

Now if that excites you even just a little bit, I caution you against going off and doing anything with the Legio just yet. The update and the project might be slightly different than what you're expecting. And if that doesn't excite you at all, maybe (hopefully) the update and the project will. Either way, I hope to have everything ready by mid-Orktober.

Expectation management: NO, this isn't a new painter. I wish it was, but I don't have the skills for that kind of thing. The image you see above was created in a very low-tech (and low-brow) manner by me, using a combination of Microsoft Paint, Jasic Paint Shop Pro, and Microsoft Word (?!!!). There are probably easier and better ways to do this, but I'm a Luddite who was born in the 1900's (I remember accessing the B&C on dial-up, before my wife and I had cell phones).

And here's something a little different, harkening back to 2002...

And just to spice things up, here are some things that may or may not be involved in upcoming events...

Things have been progressing well. Here's the latest (and last?) of the Legio Space Marines that have been created for the new [upcoming] insignium...

Yes, all of that is "drawn" in Microsoft Paint, Jasc Paint Shop Pro, and Microsoft Word. No, it wasn't easy (or good ). Getting the "Deathwatch" shoulder pad on there sucked. The first person that figures out the text that is on the shoulder pad gets an achievement badge.

I'm guessing? Love the design and espeically love the design on the bottom of the greave!
