They're both (presumably) FOMO boxes without a codex releasing close to the end of an edition, no?

No.

This is a BATTLEFORCE. Releasing in the holiday season, which battleforces typically do, no matter where the edition cycle is at, and which tend to be extremely limited.

The other one came out in the spring, wasn't a battleforce, and remained in stock longer than a battleforce would.

But aside from being almost nothing alike, they're exactly alike.

The Assault Terminators look great - no complaints. I definitely want at least one unit.

Ancient is brilliant too - best version of a Terminator with banner we've ever had.

I just had another look at the rules, and they don't inspire me all that much. Thunder Hammers hitting on a 4+ compared to Power Fists on a 3+

I dunno... how much do I want to invest in the units. Extra wound is nice, but also makes no difference against damage 2 weapons which are most common for elite infantry melee and ranged weapons.

Lovely update, won’t be getting the big box, I already have 15 terminators, the chaplain and 2 captains. Will just get 1-2 of the individual sets and the ancient

Assault Terminator. Yes.

A bit surprised about the shields retaining the square shape. Never been the hugest fan of that look. Also really really lament the vanishing of forgeworld's old Terminator upgrades right about now (even though there's bajillion printed alternatives online at as many differing quality levels)

Of course the Terminator Ancient rumor was true. It was a given because I'd converted my own just a few months ago.

Look at it this way, you will have a model nobody else does!

Anyway, these guys look rather spiffy. The hammers are very nicely proportioned, and I much prefer these lightning claws over the last-gen "knuckleduster" style. Also these seem loosely inspired by the older metal Terminator claws, which is cool! I'm not entirely convinced by the poses when armed with claws, which seems like an unfortunate side effect of the loss of ball-jointed waists, but I'm sure that's easily rectified.

My big hope is the shields are separate pieces such that they can easily be replaced. I like the stock shields, don't get me wrong, but for customization purposes it'd be nice, either for giving the Assault Terminators new shields or giving their shields to other guys.

Cool. I'm glad their shields retained their square shape, I like the shield the jump captain had too but I like these better.

Now I actually prefer the taller shields like the BGVs have but it is not enough to be a dealbreaker. On the other hand, I love the Lightning Claws. I much prefer the OG look than the knuckle-duster style.

Probably an easy enough conversion

Rules are temporary, nice Assault Terminator models in your collection are eternal.

While it's not a durability boost to D2 weapons on the regular, the moment the squad has a FNP of any kind it makes a huge difference. Don't forget the existence of high AP D1, D3, and any weapon that's Dd3 or Dd6 (which don't lose a lot of efficiency when targeting Terminator equivalents).

I'd take the extra wound + Devastating Wounds over a fist + Storm Bolter any time, no questions asked.

Wow, this is amazing. Next to no Cawl design language on these. This box is a day one purchase.

Edit: Just noticed the Aquila in place of the Imperialis on some of the chest plates. I hope future Space Marine kits include this kind of variety.

Yeah, I really hope they have a serious revamp of terminator rules in the next codex. Models are very cool, rules are pretty meh. And meh might be fine if you induce one squad for funsies, but if they want people to field terminator heavy armies then they need to do better.

Terminators are due some kind of rules tweak like the Intercessors got.

Solid Update, but I didn't had a wow moment looking at them. Maybe if we see them in other colours.

Marines always look better in black, white, red or yellow. It is shame that GW is so enamoured with keeping the chapter with one of the weakest colour schemes as the poster boys.

Maybe if Ultramarines get moved into their own supplement book like BA, DA, SW and BT (and DW) that'll make GW switch to a different colourscheme for "basic" LSM.
Tho it's probably gonna be Crimson Fists so still Blue.

welcome back, space marine heroes

I miss the knuckle duster variant, would been nice option, but these are still quite lovely indeed.

Sergeants shield is propably easy swap for any bladeguard ones for that longer, slimmer shield like earlier assault termies had
