Anyone know the points contents of these? The marine one looks interesting

Cobbling together a quick list...

  • Marines come out to 1063.
  • Mechanicum come out to 1044.
  • Solar Auxilia come out to 1097.

So they're relatively close in terms of points. My quick list building may be sloppy and doesn't account for moving certain upgrades/builds around (like Tank Commanders, upping Leman Russ' to Vanquishers, etc) but should be roughly accurate-ish.

So these are just smaller versions of the Battlegroups from this time last year then? Last years Astartes Battlegroup box had an additional Fast Attack set in there.

Granted, last years boxes had 10 Rhinos, not 5, and no Sicarans.

Seems like the Astartes is about 1000 points, the Mechanicum about 1500 points, and the Solar Aux about 1250 points.

Classic shrinkflation. Those were 145€, and I think worked out that you got a box *free'. If these new boxes are priced at 135€ then you are just paying for the convenience of them being in a big box.

Almost none of the SGS starters are in that vein; they almost always give good savings, so I'd wait till we got the prices.

The Battle Group went on sale from GW at £125, and yeah, it did work out at the time that one of the five boxes that made up the bigger box was free. It’ll be interesting to see how much these Combat Forces drop in at, given that the new ones contain 4.5 boxes (Infantry, Heavy Support, Kratos, Sicaran and half a Rhino box).

Even though the Battle Group was a limited box, it was still available through FLGS for about £95 about a year later. Which was nice. I can’t remember if they did a second run or if they made loads. Less nice is painting up 30 rhinos…

I am interested to pick one up and paint hem in DG colours. However the price needs to be right. If they think to punish us for not picking up the first version of this deal by making the second iteration too costly then I am out.

How much extra would you need to spend to get the rules and army lists?

I've been considering collecting, but reckon you probably need the eyes of a hawk and skill of a surgeon to build the tiny things!

Lascannons on tanks and missile launchers on infantry are pretty fiddly. So if you have very large hands you will run into difficulties.

They aren't too bad to build and painting is easier than heroic scale. Lots of tutorials on YouTube. You can even paint them on the sprue then glue to the base.
