NTaW
Greetings and salutations fellow Nobles. I've yet to play my Knights, but I've got almost my whole collection bought and just over half of it built. I've still got one Knight left to buy and I'm wondering if I can lean on some more veteran experience here to find out how some units are doing in game. Currently, I'm looking at using three Questoris and six Armigers. A Crusader, Paladin, and Gallant backed up by three each Helverins and Warglaives. There's room for the pennant of silvered fury on my Gallant in a Questoris Companions detachment. Weapons will be magnetized, and I've got the battleforce box Knight and the new Defender box so far with intent to get the Preceptor box last to round out weapon options. I also have Vindicare and Callidus assassin models, and could drop an Armiger to free up points to swap Knight classes and/or take more enhancements. What I'm wondering is if it's worth dropping one of the Questoris for either a Dominus (magnets, but likely most often a Castellan), or a Cerastus Lancer. The Castellan would add some always agreeable anti-tank, but I'm not entirely sure the Lancer would be better than the Gallant. It would look a heck of a lot cooler though, and both options mean one less set of static Questoris legs Has anyone used either of these Knight options, and how has it been going? Focslain
So of your list, the Gallant and Paladin had the most changes from the index to codex. The Gallant lost it's -1 to hit in melee for a movement trick (extended consolidation) and the Paladin lost it's free rerool per phase for +1 AP on ranged against the closest target. The Lancer is a good pick overall due to it's free tank shock and it hits as hard as Canis Rex in melee. The Castellan is a good anti-tank platform with it's re-roll damage ability you have a better then average chance to one shot a vehicle with teh volcano lance and the plasma decimator will melt MEQs without having to overcharge. Defender looks like an interesting addition to the roster as it does what it's title states. having a native 4++ is nice since we lost Rotate Ion in all but one detachment, plus bonded armigars have DR 1 which will help out greatly against D2 weapons which are all over the place. Plus it's main weapons are decent. It's plasma is just a shorter range version of the Castellan's and the Conversion Beamer is good for heavy infantry or vehicle busting. Really the main three of your force will depend on the detachment you take. Spearhead at Arms works with your decent number of armigars as you can effect all of them with the number you have. Gate Warden Lance is good for a shooty heavy list and Valorstrike is a good all rounder. Crunching the numbers, dropping an armigar for the vindicare isn't a bad idea as it can go character hunting. You have the points in your original list to just upgrade the Crusader to a Castellan. I'm not too kin on the Paladin anymore. Index version was an auto-include, but now I'm not too sure. There are other options, but it really depends on your local meta. An Errant would work nice if you deal with a large amount of vehicles are even other knights. The Warden is nice versus hordes. NTaW
I appreciate the insight, Focslain! I really hadn't considered the ability change on the Paladin, in truth I was very focused on battle cannons since they seemed like the best all around weapon. I guess it comes down to my main anti armour, the thing that can one-shot average vehicles consistently, being a Gallant, Lancer, Castellan, or Defender. The three Warglaives aren't insignificant either. Perhaps I just need to accept I'm buying five big bots? Ha! I do face a fair bit of armour, but it's concentrated in Guard tank lists. Most people use a good spread of vehicle to infantry. As much as I would lean into anti armour shooting, I'm really not against running up and punching some tanks. As it stands with how my magnetizing efforts over the weekend went, I'll have a Knight that's a Paladin/Gallant (built) and another that could be a Crusader/Paladin/Warden (next up). I guess I've really just got to decide between getting a Defender/Errant/Preceptor or a Castellan to round out my 2k list. I'll definitely be bouncing around the two assassins, the Callidus jumping around to objectives and the Vindicare sniping characters are both valuable assets. Ming the Merciless
I've yet to play a game with the new codex but i have a similar list ready to rumble, Crusader, Errant, Preceptor, 3 Helverins, 3 Warglaives. Will be using Spearhead at arms for max armiger buffing. If I was feeling more competitive I'd be tempted to switch out an armiger and the Preceptor for a Callidus Assassin and Canis Rex NTaW 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/386780-ideas-for-a-2k-list/#findComment-6134491 Share on other sites
NTaW
I think I'll likely end up playing Questoris Companions most often, but I am also curious about how Spearhead at Arms will play out. I think I like the stratagems and enhancements more in QC, but buffing all my Armigers at once is also quite salient an option. I think I'll end up playing Crusader, Errant, Paladin/Gallant most often for my three Knights. Feel free to post up with how your games turn out, it would be good to hear how things are going with the book in hand.
