"From September 30, 2025, access to Imgur from the United Kingdom is no longer available. UK users will not be able to log in, view content, or upload images. Imgur content embedded on third-party sites will not display for UK users."

For the B&C, this means that our members in the U.K. can no longer see images that are hosted on Imgur. This is affecting some of the images in the Call to Arms event.

You can read the full announcement at:

Imgur access in the United Kingdom – imgur

This is a perfect example of why I highly recommend that members use the free Gallery feature here at the B&C for image hosting. If you're not sure how to do that, check out this tutorial.

Yes, this appears to be an outcome of the U.K.'s Online Safety Act of 2023. And to prevent the potential and unnecessary political discussion, I'm going to lock this discussion.

If you see someone whose signature images no longer work [for you], feel free to PM them. They are not obligated to use some other hosting solution, but they may make a change if you ask nicely.

This post isnt 40k but i think its important.

Images linked to from Imgur will no longer be visible to users in the UK.

Im fairly certain that the issue is linked to the (temporary) age verification laws here.

I just thought i would let people know as i noticed that my early posts with images linked from Imgur are no longer visible.... to myself lol.

Oi! You got a loicense for that post??

Is it more than just imgur? The other day I posted a pic link from a different website, and had to attach it direct to the post because it was not working for those of you still bound to King and Country.

It may well be more than just Imgur. I have been seeing the  "not available" signs for images on this forum before the Sept 30th Imgur changes...

There's an article with more details of the situation here:

It's not clear to me how much of this is connected to the 2023 act and how much Imgur falls foul of earlier data protection rules for underage users.

It's entirely to do with the OSA. Imgur didn't want to comply with the new regulations from the Act, in particular the age verification requirements due to the adult content hosted on the site, and so they simply cut off service. Other websites have also stopped service tot he UK and I expect more will do the same as time goes by.

It seems to be more complex than that, the Information Commisioners office had already started an investigation under their 2021 Children's code strategy, before the 2023 act was enforceable.

https://www.theregister.com/2025/10/01/imgur_exits_uk/

and

https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2025/09/imgur-not-accessible-in-uk-ico

seem to support the idea that age verification as such is not the issue.

I can't find a statement by Imgur's owner Medialab AI about their reasoning. I don't think they host adult content any more. I think their platforms other than Imgur have implemented age verification to comply with the 2023 act.

I've merged the two topics.

The more relevant issue is that members who use Imgur for their image hosting should consider alternatives if they want their images to be seen at the B&C, and we (naturally) recommend taking advantage of the free Gallery feature here. See the link in the first post for a series of tutorials on using our Gallery if you are interested.
