Blood Angels poster faction for 11th

Per our favourite Jeff Goldblum giffer, warp whispers saying marines in 11th ed launch box v Orks next summer will be in Blood Angels colours, thats right, Blood Angels taking over from Ultramarines on the box art.

 

Marines in box will all be generic, just painted BA

My first intro game was these two forces, except they left the Ork Boyz out.

That Paper Dread was BALLER.  2026 is not an anniversary.  That box was 1993, I think.  1991 was too early and I know it wasn’t 1996 (that was Codex: Chaos, Angels of Death, and Sgt. Centurius).

In the video he did yesterday Mr Rak said that according to the rumors, GW wanted to recreate that second edition art, so idk if there's an anniversary but I wouldn't be surprised if they Primarised it like they did a few years ago with the Crimson Fists last stand art

Fixing up the new box to resemble the 2nd edition starter is a good idea for GW as it will probably get me good. When rumours started to come out that the new big box would be Marines vs Orks I thought it wouldn't be for me as I just don't have much interest in Orks right now but the 2nd edition box and the beautiful art on the front are a huge piece of nostalgia for me and even if I don't care for Ork I don't think I'll be able to resist it's charms.

If true, the Marines inside being presented as Blood Angels is good news, I don't really have a problem with generic kits always being painted up as Ultramarines for the promotional stuff (I can appreciate the consistency at least) but having something different will be great. I probably would have gone with Crimson Fists or one of the founding chapters who don't have a supplement if I was given the choice but Blood Angels is a good choice.

Pulling on the nostalgia strings, look forward to seeing whats in the box. Leviathan was a great set and refresh for the nids hopefully we get some new nobz and something big and shooty for either side.

See there was me thinking 11th Edition being a reference to 3rd with Marines vs Drukhari was the obvious choice, but this is up the same nostalgia-baiting street. 

 

We're expecting redone Intercessors/Tactical Squad, Gretchin are one of the Ork units that need a do-over, Boyz are needed too (something that will allow you to build a full unit of Shootas or Slugga/Choppa so the old kit can finally be retired) so it all seems to line up with the 2E box. Chuck in a Captain posed like the old box art and maybe a new Deff Dread and you're most of the way there. Sure, I could believe that.

I thought 12th edition was the better choice to do this since, but if they can keep the great minis quality of indomitus and leviathan box, I'm all in, no matter what.

Would love this to be the case. Updated ‘tactical’ intercessors, vanguard veterans etc in the box as generic marine sculpts painted as blood angels would be amazing. Orks as an adversary like second edition and the title ‘Armageddon’ for the fomo box would be the icing on the cake. The 2nd edition box was my first foray into 40K. 
 

I’m also wondering if at some point in 11th we will see an updated cover art BA captain model.

This will be great if it is true. I think that the new Captain Centos model bears more than a passing resemblance to the BA Captain on the box cover.

Colour me interested! But again, plain models, and primaris don't really interest me that much, the models would have to be something special... Otherwise I'll just paint up my second Ed marines

I can see this happening. The intercessor kit will be almost 10 years old by the time 11th edition drops.

 

They could refresh the unit in a similar style to how the Space Wolf Grey Hunters are done. A few mk7 style helms, some bits here and there from older armours, more weapon variety for the Sgt and a few extra weapons for the squad. 

 

I wouldn't mind a new Inceptor kit with better flight stands, or the flight stands simply removed lol.

We're near the 40th anniversary of 40K , so it should have been Crimson Fists :(

I couldn't agree more with this..

 

We should have had an Intercessor styled like that classic Crimson Fist with the beaky helmet on the classic art, and the edition could also have launched an updated Pedro Kantor as well.

Crimson Fists as the "poster boy" scheme for 11th would be cool but I'll take Blood Angels. Honestly I'm not too fussed as the "box boys" are just a default colour scheme for Chapter-agnostic models; as long as the models are good!

 

That said a new version of the 2E (and RT for that matter) cover art Marine would be nice if only because the ones we got were limited releases in Finecast (ech); even aside from scale discussions, they're solid sculpts ruined by incredibly poor choice in material. I sometimes wonder if FInecast was a GW psyop to make the average wargamer hate resin by association with that godawful grey swiss cheese.

Imagine they'll keep the rest of the regular boxes ultramarines just to make it simpler for new players, but think its great if they do mix up the ones on the new edition sets. and i do like the warcom articles that will have new boxes/units painted up in different styles by the community. 

 

given how many questions there are about it i'm kinda surprised they've not put something on the boxes to indicate units are suitable for all chapters.

They owe the Blood Angels the 11th edition box the way they shafted them on their refresh.  

 

I'll be glad to see something different on the box.  I'd have thought Crimson Fists since it was Orks but I like them both anyway.

Blood Angels will definitely look a lot nicer than the Ultras, but it also doesn't matter terribly much. 

 

Is there more info about the box contents and can someone summarise it in writing? I know Valrak's rumours tend to be pretty damn solid, but if at all possible I'd rather not listen half an hour of him being stupidly overexcited like a small child or an American.

Maybe there'll be a special Crimson Fist release on the actual 40th anniversary?  That wat, GW can double dip two years in a row on the nostalgia.
