Probably another year without a purchase. Definitely feels like a weird year of boxes. Even the Space Marine one has me scratching my head like who wants this.

Th SM one kinde peaked my interest.

Thankfully no desolation marines, the duo dreads are somewaht tempting me.

Love the Krieg box, but can't really justify an other faction...

I was adding up the points of these the other day on the apps and I think 40k points are mental currently. All 4 AoS boxes are ~1000 points, the Krieg one is 445 points. Also ‘fun’ fact, Farsight is 85 points, the cheapest Skaven engineer in AoS is 90 points.

Warhammer has always been expensive but I'm toning back my GW expenditure as it's become too much. Very thankful there are oodles of games now for the golden age of geekdom.

I own the old Tzeentch Start Collecting and a Lord of Change. In 40k this collection comes out to 765 points. In AoS it comes out to 1050.

Another example is my Flesh Eater Courts vs my Kroot. I am the proud owner of both of their recent army boxes, and the contents are VERY similar. I'd argue the Kroot have a bit more plastic value due to the Krootox Rider and two shapers vs the Gorewarden and Vargulf. But in points terms,.the Kroot box is 350 and the FEC is 720

It's interesting that in most other places I've broached the topic, plus a survey done by Auspex Tactics backs it up, people seem to angle towards "I want to use armies the size that they are and have all the toys. Also they cost too much in cash for their points value." It's like a self enabling addict/oxymoron.

Not really. The problem is that 40k plastic is costed far higher than anything else without good reason outside MOAR PROFIT.

But that's simply not true, sigmar kits by far and wide aren't much cheaper than 40k kits. They are however, typically more points, so you need notably fewer of them.

And yes it's for more profit. But like I say, objectively a majority of people think the volume of minis currently in a game is good and they dont want to take smaller armies. So... buy less stuff apparently isn't an option for most. Thanks for backing my point up.

GW is very clear that they have chosen to be the “premium” option in the market. Buyers, rightly or wrongly, very directly correlate price with premium. It’s why designer handbags can sell for a gazillion dollars and posh women love them. It’s just a bag. This is just a plastic toy soldier.

Choosing your niche in a market and then staying there is a perfectly good reason. They probably wouldn’t actually make more money by dropping their prices and competing on sales quantity like a mass-market option, they’ve already done that at the premium price point.

yeah this stuff is expensive and the points are low for an army, but companies know that “in terms of preference, the customer is always right”. They sell models because people want to buy models and grow their collections. Maybe players don’t want Admech to be a horde army, but slapping a whole load of minis on the table is great fun, otherwise the squad formats would be more popular.

I’m somewhat tempted by the Krieg one, but I’m still working my way through the TSons and DG boxes from earlier this year, plus Darkwater might get me. If I really want to paint some Krieg, the new combat patrol should suffice.

So better value on the dollar, other than you are then playing AoS...

I'm tempted by the EC one, mostly because the Kakophani look stupid next to the modern HH plastics and the resin demon Fulgrim scares me it'd shatter every move phase.

Resin demon fulgrim isn't as fragile as you'd think. However, the 40k is a lot chunkier (and a bigger base). Apparently 10,000 years of excess has taken its toll lol

This is just price sensitivity in action. AOS is less popular, so GW needs to offer better value. They don't want to provide that premium value in plastic, so they do it in points. It costs $500 to build a good AOS army, and closer to $1000 if you want to build a Space Marine army. If AOS becomes more popular, expect the discount to go away.

My FLGS confirmed them at £155 each

I really don't understand the Krieg box then, not only with how little points it has but that it also has the worst discount of all of them? I thought it would be a bit cheaper then as they did that before but if they all are £155 why make a box that both has the lowest points and the lowest discount at only 23%

Because it'll sell regardless.

A store owner replied to the pricing sheet on Reddit and they'd been told by their rep that the quantity produced this year is the lowest ever and not to expect much as a heads up.

I wonder if they're prepping for 11th 40k already?

Figure from Peachy was they made 350k of the launch box last time. If that gummed up the works and theyre surely making even more boxes this time

They probably started printing on that back in September (in contrast, these probably finished a run at the printers in the summer, allowing for logistics to do their thing and get them around the world.
