L30n1d4s
Well, we have the official fluff preview for him, what do you all predict his dataslate rules will be? https://www.warhammer-community.com/en-gb/articles/vehi78kr/caanok-var-iron-captain-of-clan-avernii/ My guess is something like this: M5" T5 Sv2+(4++) W7 Ld6+ OC1 Ranged Weapons: -MCed Storm Bolter 24" A2 S5 AP-1 Dmg2 (Rapid Fire 2) Melee Weapons: -Axiom **Strike: WS2+ A5 S8 AP-2 Dmg3 **Sweep: WS2+ A10 S5 AP-2 Dmg1 Rules: Oath of Moment, Deep Strike, Leader (Assault Terminators, Terminators), FNP (4+) Cerebrex: Can redeploy 3 Astartes units before the battle begins (including into Reserves) Destructor and Sinistrus: At the end of each of your Movement Phases, he can pick one enemy unit within 24" and visible. All friendly Astartes units get -1AP for all attacks against that unit until the start of your next Movement phase. Tacitus
I Don't know about a version of the Phobos Captain Redeploy. I'd guess more something like Calgar's Advance, Shoot AND Charge. I wouldn't be surprised and believe we're most likely to see Get 1 CP during your command phase if he's your warlord. I don't see Axiom being D1 or D3. Orange Knight
This guy's description is really exciting to me. In my opinion we need more characters with unique tactical abilities. I also think he'll have some movement manipulation, but geared towards Terminators perhaps, or an aura to bolster infantry units around him. He'll either provide a CP bonus each command phase, or potentially offer CP refunds throughout the turns. Alternatively I can imagine him inflicting a CP cost penalty for an opponent. L30n1d4s
As someone who plays with the Phobos Captain in my list, his redeploy is quite valuable for my Infantry, but in the same breath, he cannot redeploy any vehicles, which is something I would like to be able to do (and something that would be fluff appropriate for IHs), so I don't think that Caanak Var having that rule would be a problem. As for CP generation, that is a valuable rule as well and I could easily see that being one of his primary abilities, as noted above. Iron Father Ferrum
I'm expecting a CP generation or refund mechanic. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/386861-caanak-var-rules-predictions/#findComment-6135632 Share on other sites
HeadlessCross
Those are definitely fanfic rules if I've ever seen them. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/386861-caanak-var-rules-predictions/#findComment-6135634 Share on other sites

jaxom
Per Goonhammer: Quote Caanok is a Terminator Captain who comes with a sick tetsubo called Axiom which acts as either a power fist in strike mode (5 attacks, WS2+, S8 AP-2 2 damage), or can be used for 10 attacks at 1 damage in a sweep. Var comes with two abilities: Cold and Calculating – When this models’ unit makes an attack that targets a MONSTER or VEHICLE unit, they gain [LETHAL HITS]. Against any other unit, that attack as [SUSTAINED HITS]. Cerebrex Logic Engine – in the Declare Battle Formations step you can pick one Astartes INFANTRY unit in your army to gain Scouts 6”. After both players have deployed, you can redeploy one of your units, placing it back into Strategic Reserves if you want, regardless of how many units are in reserves. Caanok can join Terminator units Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/386861-caanak-var-rules-predictions/#findComment-6136232 Share on other sites
HeadlessCross
Definitely some solid rules that are unfortunately stuck to Terminators. Definitely makes Assault Terminators a lot better but still doesn't do anything for regular Terminators since their shooting would only go from bad to below mediocre. I'm thinking scouting a Centurion squad of some kind and potentially throwing his own unit back in reserves and hitting Rapid Ingress ASAP. Orange Knight
He's probably the best Terminator character alongside Lysander? More useful for the unit he joins. Yeah, but his special detachment is less great. Picking an extra Oath target sounds good until you see the rules along with it. I think he + Feirros would work better in a Stormlance, Vanguard, or Gladius actually (that's nothing new though LOL). If you're hellbent on doing the new guy with basic Terminators instead of Assault ones, then take the both of them in Firestorm instead. Orange Knight
He's not limited to that detachment at least. But I actually quite like that detachment either way, even if it isn't the strongest. Galron
Its a fairly nice detachment. On par with Emperor's Shield. Done right, it can put out some serious dakka. I know someone did some math and figured ES worked better with regular terminators with a pair of cyclones rather than assault termies and I would assume the IH one would be the same. I think the math worked out to 14 and some change damage to a blood thurster with oom from one squad using the strat. I like it. I already have a Lysander sub-in for my Scorpions so I may just sub that model in. The detachments are close enough though that it turns into a why bother situation. I think the IH detachment from a first glance is a slight bit more tanky than the ES detachment which is a slight bit more killy.
