Brother Anderson
There are some absolutely cracking conversions in this thread, it's been great to see what everyone is working on! For my second entry I've been working on a converted basilisk for my traitor guard using the hydra hull, inspired by open topped SPGs and tank destroyers from history. I'm of two minds whether to bulk up the height of the casemate at the back or to leave it as-is, any opinions would be most appreciated! Tallarn Commander
Brother Anderson, the height looks great as is. Perhaps you could add some handles to the rear of the tank on the outside. Then add some hinges to the rear, both inside and outside the tank. Then you could say the entire rear panel drops down for loading purposes. You might even want to paint hazard stripes on the rear to indicate the rear drops down. This is a bit crazy but maybe you could even somehow assemble hang a small winch and pulley off the rear for loading shells into the compartment? Perhaps using a round bit and some jeweler's chain? Brother Anderson
Thanks folks! @Tallarn Commander Ooh that is a very tempting idea, I'll have a dig around my bits box and see what I can rustle up! Adding those usability features really makes a conversion work I think. Dwango
I've been wanting to get involved but didn't know what to vow. I now do. I'm going to make a Kytan from this lot. Obviously the knight legs help out a lot with getting this started. Dr. Clock
Took a minute... These are table ready now at any rate: And rear - it's amusing how little armour they have back there! I still want to spend a little time on some details here, but I'm working on a few little things for xmas presents just now... which will delay any final pledge here for a week or two. Dwango
Faffed with the shoulders as the original idea wasn't working. Also filled in the torso, set the head and created the cannon arm. Never thought I'd have to make a tongue for a bloodthirster! The chain axe will be tricky. Alby the Slayer
And it's done . I also thought and created a bit of the lore for this project since nothing much is known about Exodite Lore, with a little of what is canon. "On Maiden World, there is a place called 'Trees of Eternity" when an Exodite can go and talk to the souls who are become one with the world itself, after passing. The name of these Exodites are written in yellow cloth and hanged up to special trees who are glowing with the world's soul. Each tree rappresent an Exodite family. Around the trees there is calm, placid sea of water. The hanged and wrapped cloth are for someone who its soul his lost and was never returned to the Maiden world. Worldsinger and former Huntress Shand'ael is looking at one particular cloth and she's smiling, because she is talking to them, reminding them that they are loved and not forgotten." Close, not far away. Trokair
Right, I have finally finished the building/converting the Heavy Weapon Team for my 7th Rhûnish Dragoons. They are nowhere near as impressive as what everybody else is doing in this challenge, but here they are. I had originally intended to use the Krieg kneeling legs with Easterling torso and heads. However due to how the legs connect with the Krieg torso it was rather awkward. I managed on one after a lot of cutting and destroying the Krieg upper torso, but for the two remaining I build the Krieg legs and torso and then just added the Easterling head. For the spotter I then used the Krieg arms on a Easterling body, with a backpack from the Krieg infantry kit (with the telephone trimmed off as the spotter was holding the phone). Now I just need to get one of these painted before end of month, the spotter perhaps? I also got out the old cadian weapon team sprues I had to build a Autocannon team and a Heavy Bolter team. Haven’t done the missile or mortar teams yet, and not sure I am going to. The idea of using the kits knelling legs with a Easterling torso worked so much better with these. Though as the old kit had original been for 60mm bases fitting them on 50mm meant that the spacing is a bit tight with bits hanging over the edge (including one gunners knelling left foot) and I also left of the second guardsman from each of these so that things did not get two crowded, though I might be able to fit one on one or two of them, undecided for now. As I only had 4 sets of the kit I did not have enough stands for the weapons, so one of the heavy bolters use a bit from a vehicle kit I had left over (I think from the basilisk conversion I did for these guys) to have a taller stand, which did allow me to use a easterlign body to have a standing gunner. I had intended to use some easterlign shields to make a little defensive position for this guy but could not get anything to look good, so instead he got some sand bags and a single shield slumped on the ground. The last Heavy Bolter used an upside down drum from the Easterling Cavalry kit as a stand, and the casualty model from the same kit as an injured gunner. I cut into the back of the casualty so that I could bend the torso to be more upright and leaning against the rock. Some pintel mount arm/gun handles from either guard or GSC models I had served to have a one handed hold on the gun for this one and one of the Autocoanns so that they are all not just the same two handed grip. This makes me think again about converting some Cities of Sigmar models into some Guard- maybe a Kill Team, there are several options for guard by now.... A Kill team as a test conversion project is a good idea. I had the idea for the Easterling Guard for years and years but never committed to it as I thought it would be too much work. Then in 2022 there was a Kill Team event here on the B&C and at the same time a friend of mine had recently added the new plastic Krieg en mass to his guard army so had plenty of spare parts I could trade for. So I did a single squad for the Kill Team event (and a open toped chimera as another idea I had for years and never gotten round to) and was happy with the test result. While I have not dealt much with the Cities of Sigmar units I think most of the kits have flat arm connections, which should make it easy to put 40k arms/weapons on them. Would be interested to see how such a project went.
