Helbrechts_Sword_Servitor
A little bit of background: I made all of my purchases under the Second Edition rules, and now I'm catching up with the 3.0 rules, and wrestling with the Detachment rules. I don't have a lot of HQ options, and I'm in the process of kitbashing more of them. Finally, I have some more stuff that what's shown below, including: 5 volkite charger dudes, 20 cataphractii termies (most with magnetized arms), 2 Contemptors, 1 Spartan, 5 heavy bolter dudes, 1 apothecary, Fafnir Rann, 1 Sicaran Venator (still in box). Is this army actually playable? I don't mind being super competitive. You have a bunch of melee characters with no units to join, a bunch of squishy power Armour troops with only one transport to move them around, no significant long-range anti-tank and you've burdened yourself with almost 500 points of pretty suboptimal dreadnoughts. For starters: -Use Logistical benefits to unlock units, especially dreadnoughts -The Cataphractii Centurion has no place whatsoever in this list and you could easily cut him by taking the dreadnoughts with Logistical benefits. -You have too many points in equipment on Sergeants, especially on those tactical squads -the tactical squads also really don't need bayonets -If you're going to try and run Dreadnoughts, take Contemptors with chainfists and/or Plasma cannons. You could run the chaplain as a mortifactor to unlock all three of them, then take LBs to unlock the support squads or the venator -You are going to need more rhinos. Using just what you have available (assuming you can exchange weapons on the Dreads and shuffling some of the Infantry into different squads) I'd run this: # ++ Crusade Primary Detachment ++ [732 Point(s)] ## High Command [137 Point(s)] Praetor [137 Point(s)]: Paragon blade, Volkite charger, One Apex Detachment ## Command [100 Point(s)] Mortificator [100 Point(s)]: Bolt pistol, Corposant stave, Servo-arm, Frag grenades, Krak grenades, Prime Unit (Logistical Benefit (LB - Armour)) ## Troops [240 Point(s)] Tactical Squad [120 Point(s)]: Frag grenades, Krak grenades • 1x Sergeant [10 Point(s)]: Combi-grenade, Bolt pistol • 1x Legionary [20 Point(s)]: Bolt pistol, Bolter, Nuncio-vox • 8x Legionary [10 Point(s)]: Bolt pistol, Bolter Prime Unit (Interdiction Cadres) Tactical Squad [120 Point(s)]: Frag grenades, Krak grenades • 1x Sergeant [10 Point(s)]: Combi-grenade, Bolt pistol • 1x Legionary [20 Point(s)]: Bolt pistol, Bolter, Nuncio-vox • 8x Legionary [10 Point(s)]: Bolt pistol, Bolter ## Transport [60 Point(s)] Rhino [60 Point(s)]: Pintle Mounted bolter, Pintle Mounted Bolter ## Armour [195 Point(s)] Sicaran Venator [195 Point(s)]: Neutron beam laser, Turret Mounted Heavy bolter, Two Sponson Mounted lascannon, Turret Mounted hunter-killer missile # ++ Apex - Combat Retinue ++ [257 Point(s), 1 Apex Detachment(s)] ## Retinue [167 Point(s)] Centurion Command Squad [167 Point(s)]: • 1x Veteran Champion [25 Point(s)]: Solarite Power Gauntlet, Plasma pistol • 2x Veteran [35 Point(s)]: Power fist, Plasma pistol • 1x Veteran [17 Point(s)]: Astartes shotgun, Bolt pistol • 1x Veteran [30 Point(s)]: Meltagun, Bolt pistol Prime Unit (Logistical Benefit (LB - Support)) ## Support [90 Point(s)] Tactical Support Squad [90 Point(s)]: Rotor cannon, Bolt pistol, Frag grenades, Krak grenades • 1x Sergeant • 4x Legionary [8 Point(s)] # ++ Auxiliary - Dreadnought Talon ++ [510 Point(s), 1 Auxiliary Detachment(s)] ## War Engine - Contemptor Dreadnoughts Only [510 Point(s)] Contemptor Dreadnought [170 Point(s)]: Gravis plasma cannon, Gravis chainfist with in-built ranged weapon, Combi-bolter, Havoc launcher Contemptor Dreadnought [170 Point(s)]: Gravis plasma cannon, Gravis chainfist with in-built ranged weapon, Combi-bolter, Havoc launcher Contemptor Dreadnought [170 Point(s)]: Gravis plasma cannon, Gravis chainfist with in-built ranged weapon, Combi-bolter, Havoc launcher Edited October 21 by Razorblade Helbrechts_Sword_Servitor 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/386956-back-into-the-heresy-first-1500-list/#findComment-6137710 Share on other sites
Helbrechts_Sword_Servitor
Thanks for the inputs. I'll try to match your suggestions, with some caveats: a. my Contemptors are kitted as following: 1. one old monopose with melee arm+storm bolter, and magnetized meltagun/assault cannon; 2. one new one, with missile launcher, melee arm with plasma blaster and all the options magnetized (bolters, autocannon, lascannon, melta). 3. one new one, with missile launcher, one arm with autocannon, one arm with lascannon. b. also, I have one Leviathan: 1. nipple volkite, phosphex on the back, and magnets on the arms (melta lance, storm cannon and flux-bombard). c. the tac squads: 1. when I got the Age of Darkness box, I was so stoked that marines could get bayonets, that basically everyone has either a chain bayonet or a regular one. Also, the sargeants got powerfists and pistols. Sure, I can play without WYSIWYG, but I'm not terribly worried about having a super list. d. the Combat retinue: 1. that's a great idea. Using the sargeants and melta guys to form a squad. Loved that. On that note, I also have a Spartan that has everything on magnets, and a Sicaran Venator that I gave myself as a birthday gift. Finally, I have the parts to kitbash a Mortifactor. I was gonna make a regular Techmarine, but the current detachment rules makes the Mortifactor better. Thanks for the pointers.
