New paint range from Cult of Paint and Artis Opus

A new kickstarter just launched for a paint range developed by Henry Steele and Andy Wardle from Cult of Paint and produced by Artis Opus. Might be interesting for some folks here. As a big fan of what both Henry and Andy do I'm very interested in it. 

Target was reached in the first hour it seems so also no risk of the kickstarter not succeeding.

Paints are probably pretty darn good but from the look of it, it's an all or nothing buy in at the moment which seems a bit of a shame. I may have punted for a colour set, but I can't push for a full set. 
As it's completed it's goal already, there's obviously enough people out there that can do exactly that!

I honestly can’t say that another paint range is what I was needing atm.

I mean the price is there: 180 pounds ex taxes for 63 paints. To each their own opinion if that's overpriced.

I wish them all the best, as I'm a big fan of Cult of Paint. I remember them talking about the Kickstarter 'coming soon' a few years ago now and unfortunately they're a bit too late to the game for me; between Two Thin Coats, AK 3rd Gen and Warpaints Fanatic I'm largely set for the foreseeable.

 

If they offered smaller tiers with the individual colour groups I'd have probably given a set a whirl, but shelling out for the whole range is a bit too big of a gamble for yet more colours right now.

I can’t justify the whole set either (I do not paint often or consistently enough), but I’m looking forward to trying these at some point down the line. The colours all seem very nice, I appreciate the simple names as well.

It seems like a cool set; but there are so many excellent paints and paunt sets, including from brands I like to support, that cant really justify buying another big set. And while I would really like many of those colors, many I would likely never use.

good luck to them, they seem decent folk....like previous posters, im not really in the market for new paints currently....I run a mix of AK3rd gen, Vallejo and ProAcryl and am pretty much covered.  Once they are released I might pick up some if new projects come along, but not a full set at this point.

I don't see what they are different from all the other ranges right now. I'm just trying out the new Army Painter range and it seems more user-friendly than Scale 75 so I'll be trying to work out which Army Painter and Pro Acryl paints I can use for good coverage and use my Scale 75's mainly for glazing when coverage is less important. If there are some unique colours in this range I may pick them up individually later down the line, I'm moving away from Citadel mainly because I can't rely on them to be usable next time I need them.

One thing that is different from the likes of the Army Painter fanatic range is that AO have indicated that whilst the paints are grouped, they don't have to be used in a linear path.

Bear with me here...

 

Whilst AP, for example, have a line of shades that progress and  Vallejo have the base, shade, highlight method, AO will have this plus examples of how to achieve other colours through mixing colours from different groups.

 

This reminds me of the colour charts from Instar which showed the ratios you needed to obtain a particular shade and adds another dimension to the paint range which, on the surface, might not tempt me away from the paints I have from the names already listed by other fraters (I've only recently discovered the AP Fanatic line and have been impressed so far).

 

It will be interesting to see the paints being used in the YouTube videos and this website when it goes live.

I did really like the image they released of the violet through to the reddish purple, which is a different approach to colour triads I suppose.

The main thing that makes them attractive for me is that Cult of Paint has for me been an invaluable source of information for specific paints throughout all the ranges. I've found they often really know which paints to pick from which ranges to get the best results for specific tasks. Which has led to a rather chimeric but very functional paint collection on my end. 

 

Seeing as they are the driving force behind the development I'm really very interested to see how they've managed to bring that knowledge/expertise into their own paint range.

I'm sure these will be top tier, but probably expensive/ difficult to buy outside of the UK. 

 

I do hope they don't start using their own paints exclusively in tutorials. That would be a big turn off.

I wish them all the best but I wonder when/if we'll reach a point of saturation with so many paint ranges hitting the market in the last few years.

Seems the most distinct feature of these is actually the naming conventions, so instead of Death Gore Turbo Blood we have Sangria, instead of Pus-Rot Perma-Puke we have Gherkin, Incandescent Solar Plasma instead is Turqoise.
