Vairocanum
It's been over 5 years since my last post on B&C but I wanted to come back and share some of the stuff I've been doing since then! First up is a Kor'Sarro Khan on bike I converted for a friends army. The base model was the Chaplain on a bike with Khan bits grafted on. GW really should have made an actual model but this was fun to convert nonetheless. Spoiler Second is this Welder Techmarine for a joint wedding gift to a friend who is a pipeline welder. I did what I could to recreate the industrial welder and pancake hood, and decided to give the model a cigarette too! In the end the model was painted in John Deere colors but I wasn't able to get pics before it was gifted. Spoiler And finally this Librarian on bike was also a gift for a friend. My friend had done a similar conversion years ago but lost the model so I remade one for him when I got my hands on the same Librarian model. Spoiler As for my own stuff, I have started a metal Grey Knights army and will start posting some WIP shots once I've finished up some more work. Thanks for looking! Heraclite
Your conversions are gorgeous and look absolutely seemless. I aprticularly like the khan on bike Vairocanum 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/386997-vairocanums-wip/#findComment-6138424 Share on other sites

Firedrake Cordova
They're nice conversions, but the biker Khan in particular is a really great conversion - once there's some paint on it to hide up the "GreenStuff green", I doubt many would be able to tell it's not a stock GW model. Thank you! I definitely think it was a missed opportunity from GW when they didn't make any "mounted" models for the White Scars but the new jet bike character is looking pretty cool! This was done for a friend so I don't have access to it anymore but I'm glad you think it blends in with stock models! I've been seeing a ton of amazing Grey Knight conversions since they still haven't updated the model range and that got me wanting to dabble in the army as well. However for me I decided to go the route of old metal minis despite the higher costs as I've always really liked the models despite there only being a few sculpts. The price is quite restrictive tho so I'll have to chip away at this slowly when I can find good deals and acquire more minis. But I do have a decent amount of models to start so I'll be knocking stuff out whenever I can. To start here's a converted Justicar: Firedrake Cordova, Valkia the Bloody and Grotsmasha 3 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/386997-vairocanums-wip/#findComment-6143045 Share on other sites
Firedrake Cordova
Admittedly, I'm not super-familiar with the old metal Grey Knight models, but I'm struggling to see the conversion Vairocanum 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/386997-vairocanums-wip/#findComment-6143085 Share on other sites

Seems like a lot of ppl are exclusively on IG now but I wanted to get back on B&C too as there was such an awesome community here! Glad you liked the Khan, was a really fun build! I did a simple leg repose on this power armor GK to see how I could add some variations to the small pool of mini variations. While not perfect, I still think it can work for when I run out of different combinations of bits on minis so I can keep them at least somewhat varied later on when the army progresses more. kabaakaba, Firedrake Cordova, Dr_Ruminahui and 1 other 4 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/386997-vairocanums-wip/#findComment-6143503 Share on other sites
Firedrake Cordova
The leg repositioning works well on the incinerator-armed model 56 minutes ago, Vairocanum said: I did a torso/leg swap! I didn't want multiples of the same justicar so I took his legs and stuck them on a different metal body Ah. It's suitably subtle that it's not obvious. (for clarity as I'm not sure it came across, I regard this as a good thing - if it looks like it could have been made by GW, then it's a sign it's been done well, in my book) Vairocanum 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/386997-vairocanums-wip/#findComment-6143510 Share on other sites

I definitely try to keep closer to the GW style for converting as it's easier to have a framework to guide. I'm still working on like 5 different GK conversions at once but progressing really slowly with all of them so here's a quick terminator apothecary I did for a friend that just bought the new Crux Terminatus set! Nothing super crazy but nice to work with plastic again after only messing with metal models lately. Vairocanum
Finished off this Grey Knight Techmarine recently based off the codex artwork. Not a particularly difficult conversion apart from the cutting but I think it looks close enough to the art get a pass. Just as a disclaimer I did not chop up a perfectly good metal Grey Knight for this and had some damaged ones that I got from a friend years ago (I did dremel out the head of the techmarine tho). I'm also working on some GK Terminator models at the moment but it's taking quite a bit to finish them as my hobby sessions aren't that long and green stuff doesn't dry that quickly More angles: Spoiler Dr_Ruminahui, Terminatorinhell, kabaakaba and 1 other 3 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/386997-vairocanums-wip/#findComment-6145519 Share on other sites
kabaakaba
Great work. Metal minis looks a way better when primed without all this highlights. Waiting now to see him painted. Waiting now to see him painted. Thank you! I don't currently own any paints (lent them to a friend that didn't store them correctly) so I've just been indulging in kitbashing and letting the painting be left as a task for future me I've been pretty busy the past few weeks but I did manage to get in some hobby time here and there, some of my grey knight terminators are getting close to completion and will be ready to post soon. In the meantime I reworked an old Black Templar Chaplain conversion since I stole his legs for my GK Justicar a few posts back. I kinda half assed the conversion back in 2017 as it was meant to just be part of a Deathwatch killteam but it was nice to update the mini as I've always liked the head and torso combo. I definitely prefer working with plastic as I can often get away with doing minimal GS work , but the GK stuff has been really satisfying to chip away at. Wishing everyone on B&C Happy Holidays! Dr_Ruminahui
That's a big improvement over what was already a nice conversion (though the old one did look like it skipped leg day ). Thank you! Agreed that the arms I chose gave him such a wide upper body that the legs ended up looking rather scrawny Hope everyone had a great Christmas! I was able to get my hands on a plastic standard for my Paladin Ancient so I'll be finishing that up soon as it's one of the simpler conversions I have planned. In the mean time I finally got around to completing my Brother Captain, he's been mostly complete other than the greenstuff work for a while but I've been focusing on other GK minis so I kept procrastinating on him. The mini is relatively plain as I also plan on making a Grandmaster and I wanted it to be clear which one was of higher rank. That said I also need to make sure the various Justicars I make aren't too fancy either Rusted Boltgun, Heraclite, Dr_Ruminahui and 4 others 4 3 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/386997-vairocanums-wip/#findComment-6148755 Share on other sites

Firedrake Cordova
The additions are quite subtle in their effect, and fit in with the original sculpt very well - I'm guessing once it's painted, it'd pass for an official, unmodified mini Vairocanum and Dr_Ruminahui 1 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/386997-vairocanums-wip/#findComment-6148786 Share on other sites
