Some absolutely bonkers level of painting on display this year. Also well done on the Warcom team for getting this up minutes after the award show.

One of the best years I can recall seeing

Also the photographers look to have stepped their game up as well, for some past Demons there has been some iffy choices but all of these were well photographed

Looking over it again, Hendarion is still going?! Guy was intensely awesome decades ago on Portent/Warseer!

Yeah, I just sent him a congratulations message on Instagram. Still puts out some amazing stuff.

The youngbloods are legitimately nuts for what we assume are 'newer' painters.  Just insane what kind of work those kids are going to be capable of in the future if they stick with it.

The entire AoS singles category is absolutely nuts, and the slayer sword was well appointed this year.  Great line-up overall!

Everything looks too shiny, to my eye.  It's undoubtedly skilful work, but it all looks like it's covered in foil.

Think that's in part due to the way they're photographed. They usually seem to overexpose quite a bit. I saw the AOS bronze unit at SMC, here's a basic phone shot which shows colours are a bit more muted. On heavy NNM overexposing makes stuff look very shiny.

Edit: Not sure why the image turned all blurry after uploading, think I fixed it as good as it's gonna get.

Comparing the level of detail involved and techniques compared to when I first attended a Games Day in 2008 is utterly incredible to see. The change in paints and tools have definitely been a factor, but it really is a whole new world of skill compared to even 10 years ago! The Diorama with the Krieg and Sororitas was a great one to display a snapshot in time of contrast from what we'd expect between those two.

Nice enough stuff - I think Hendarion was robbed in the squad entry - the winner baely had highlights, but I think previousnyearshave generally seen more abitious and interesting entries.

To me, Hendarion's entry is everything I dislike about the Golden Demon 'style' we've seen the last few years more and more - just everything over highlighted to death, where it takes your eye from what’s actually interesting. The volumetric style of thew SW squad just seems so much less jarring.

I'm also a much bigger fan of the composition than the level of painting and much prefer the squad stuff and duels as a result
