I predict we're going to see new Space Wolves models. And Blood Angels are going to get a new unit taken away.

And they'll celebrate it as a successful year of chaos.

Historically, next to nothing of any real import is released between end of Nov and Jan. Id expect to see the Xmas boxes on Sunday for a release by 29th Nov and then it'll be filler until Jan as a guess.

A picture of the new Warhammer Quest leaked in a Xmas pamphlet thing so I think that will be before Christmas.

I think the only way it fits is if the Xmas boxes dont have a 2 week run up in that case? Again, I can't see them releasing much of anything in December. I suppose it could be WHQ this weekend and the holiday boxes then dropping 27th Nov.

Well it defo won’t be this weekend as it’s the headliner for the reveal show on the 7th Nov.

Good point, so xmas boxes shown this week for a 22nd Release, WHQ next week after the preview logically for a 29th release.

No it isn't.

We've gone over this a few times now. At the moment, the game has had a new edition three years after the previous one - this hasn't happened more than once however. For there to actually be a cycle in play it'd have to happen two or more times. Which we'll know if we hit 2028 and see a 4th Edition release.

People need to learn to distinguish between core game / core brand. As at present, the core brands are Warhammer 40,000, Age of Sigmar, Horus Heresy and The Old World. And Heresy being promoted to a core brand when it was was almost certainly more tied into the sheer number of novels and licensed products it was receiving rather than the popularity of 1st Edition.

Having to wait for a third release to declare if something is on a three-year cycle is silly.

GW makes CG cinematics for four games. Three of them are definitively on that cycle, it seems likely they view the fourth in the same mold.

My prediction: AOS will drop out of the three-year rotation before HH does.

There's no way. AoS is having the best years of its life and HH was panned on its most recent release.

I do not see that happening, quite the opposite and I don't even like AoS at all.

Was HH panned? Did it sell poorly? I know a couple online retailers go over their skis, but it seems to turn over well at the shops I visit.

Whereas AOS seems hard to shift – there are dozens of copies of all of last year's Battleforces for sale on Amazon. They gave Skaventide boxes away en masse at GenCon.

I like AOS and think it has some of the best models in the GW portfolio, but it seems like a massive waste of resources that could be better focused on 40K and its offshoots.

Saturnine is the only launch product (in the uk), to retail at I think it was 35% off rrp? Basically almost at cost, because of GW hyping it up as the next big thing to sell loads to retailers, who then found the interest wasn't there.

The really deep discounts were because Wayland massively over ordered (and some places matched their discount), but I don’t think it was a great seller no.

Calling AoS a waste of resources is just insulting tbh. It might not sell like 40k but what does?

This is it, I think some people think it has to be "fantasy 40k" but it simply never will be.

They've overprinted the last two AoS launch boxes, but IMO that's in large part due to the factions being so different. They treat SigMarines like Space Marines, when AoS players are far more spread out than among 40k and the SMfactions. They've also been using those launch boxes for range refreshes on unpopular factions, rather than packing it with Slaves to Darkness and selling out. Why they do that, I dunno, but it's more a comment on choice of product than the popularity of the setting. My LGS gets sent too many of the Army Launch boxes, but the Christmas boxes sell out eventually, even if it takes a year or two. I'm not complaining that the discount boxes aren't being scalped!

More games mean more armies to sell. And even if the game isn't as popular as 40k is now, GW is definitely hoping that by the time AoS hits its own 10th edition their love and commitment to it will have paid off. They could go all-in on 40k, but they seem to have settled in to having a flagship and then minor game for each of sci-fi and fantasy as their core products.

They always give away something en masse at the cons. They've done the same at LVO for kill team and similar.

Just because you don't like AoS doesn't mean others don't. It's sufficiently popular that it keeps going. Probably not the same level of 40k but it doesn't have to be to be successful.

40k may sell very well but it doesn't mean it hasn't become stale as a setting. Most new kits are rehashed updates of older kits. To see something genuinely new and surprising for 40k is a rarity. The narrative arguably has become very dull, primarch-centric plotlines. Even if next summer we return to Armageddon that'll be the 3rd time orks have been there. Armageddon is still on the tail end of angron being there (again). Honestly, can they not craft something different?

Genuinely, I don't know how you can look at 40k and say that the plug needs pulling on AoS. 40k may sell better but it doesn't mean it's actually better. (Subjective view displayed, other views may vary).

I'd assume the reason Necromunda avoids the churn aside from being very much specialist games baby, is that it has no competitive value. The games that are in the cycle all have a very prominent tournament scene which allows for rapid updates to "maintain balance". A game like 'munda being narrative focused has no need hence the various book of's to fix issues as it's more marketable to players than risking constant resets.

Possibly? Although I'd say the issue isn't whether a games system "needs" a new edition, but rather GW makes a new edition, so they can have a new launch box, and advertise to new players as a jumping on point. Although I guess Necromunda gets these big boxsets every so often which perhaps serve part of that purpose.

Personally, I would just be surprised if Necromunda lasts much longer without a new edition. Sure, like you say, of all GW's game systems, Necromunda has probably the least competitive value. But with how much the company focuses on new editions, it does seem surprising if Necromunda is the one game system that is made an exception. But hey, guess only time will tell. At least GW seem happy to give Necromunda support with good models and books.

I dont think so, it seems huge in my area, despite my distaste for it, its not like I'm trying to pump it up here.

Rapiers (in two varieties), Mk II Assault Marines, extra weapon sprue for the Saturnine dreadnought, boxed starter sets for Marines/Aux/Mech, two splatbooks...not to mention all the standalone boxes from the Saturnine box.

That's not bad for three months, especially when we know we're also getting breachers, cataphractii, a new mech unit, and at least one new Custodes unit.

Rapiers came out before saturnine, beyond the launch box the only new kits were the fellblade and assault squad with the two these should've been in the liber journals
