JeffJedi
"What should I build? What should I paint? Should I buy that?" It's a common question. Worse it could lead to becoming overwhelmed and getting nothing done. My goal is to help you find an answer and to keep you working. Using my system of 3 main factors I want to help you see what's really important. this isn't about how hard it is or how much you have to do, it helps you see what to do next. Projects you work on move up the list, they stay important making you want to finish them. You see that you haven't touch an item in years at the bottom and you may want to sell it. Buying a new squad for next weeks battle or looking up out of print classics? My system will help you see what you will have to juggle to get them on your painting desk and finished. "What should I work on next?' We all know the paralysis—shelves of shame, shiny new releases, that perfect project you never start. The Hobby Momentum Engine turns overwhelm into action. JeffJedi
This is my own example and I'm going to explain what to do to make it work and understand it. JeffJedi's Hobby Chart System (Summary)Total = Sum of Priority + Completion + Interest → The higher the Total, the more you should work on the project → Ranks projects by overall momentum. Priority = Starts with a base number like 5, then adds +1/-1 modifiers based on urgency → Reflects real-life relevance and shifting demands → Flexible, changes with time and circumstance. Completion = Progress made → Only goes up—represents irreversible effort → As it rises, the project climbs the chart and tends to stay near the top. Interest = Finite resource (max 80) → Must be reallocated when new excitement arises → Based on feelings—how much you want to work on a project → Forces zero-sum decisions and prevents hobby sprawl Size = Project scale (Small, Medium, Large) → Used to break ties—smaller projects rank higher when totals match → Adds context, not part of scoring Special Rows: → Build All and Paint All are infinite meta-projects → ∞ tier reflects philosophical overflow Edited 4 hours ago by JeffJedi spelling Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/387018-jeffjedis-the-hobby-momentum-system/#findComment-6138986 Share on other sites
JeffJedi
The Size could be Small 1-2 Characters, Tanks or Squads, Medium Combat Patrol or more. Large is that whole army. Any spreadsheet could handle this, im using copilot AI to make mine. You have 80 Interest points, make them count and you will see what matters. JeffJedi
My Personal Chat gives a 3 for 40k and a 4 for Horus Heresy as the starting Priority. 40K is lower because a new edition is not far off. +1 if I'm building for my brother who paints them later. Any factors you want can be +1/-1 stick to what you make. they matter to you. Playing a game Sunday means +1, hating bikes means -2 or whatever you want. JeffJedi
Interest is personal, why you want to do it. If it's zero interest why do you have it at all? A -1 to me means it's time to sell. You only have so much to spare. 8 for me goes to building everything I have. It's always in my mind taking up space so I stop getting more, or at least slow. You have 80 Interest. Why not 100? Gotta keep something for real life. Completion is easy 1-10 based on how finished. Momentum builds from finishing making you want to keep going until you are finish and the Project is removed.
