"Nothing should have survived that bombardment; nothing. For almost 24 hours our artillery pounded the traitor held city - no street, no building was intact. But still, we stood behind our barricades, some how knowing it wouldn't be enough. And we were right... The following morning, before a sunless dawn under dark cloud obscured skies, a thick, green-tinged fog began to creep from the ruins towards our lines. And then, they came - lurching, shambling out of the fog; what used to be the inhabitants of the city. Their bodies twisted by repulsive mutations, swelled by the disease they carried, their skin covered in oozing pustules. As soon as we had range, we opened fire. By the throne, they took so much of our fire - Las round after Las round just to drop one of those horrors. It wasn't long before they were on us. And that's when the screams started.

Oh, Emperor, the screams... I can still hear them, when I shut my eyes, when I try to sleep..."

 - Guardsman Redfield, survivor of the Arklay Primus massacre
