It's a little selfish, but I think I'd rather see him killed off than have the model replaced, as long as his death is badass that is. Pedro Kantor is up there with the best metal Space Marine character models (named or otherwise), which is high praise indeed considering how many awesome Marines we got in metal. Sure he's classic-scaled but realistically any attempt to remake him short of just upscaling his legs and torso and leaving the rest of him basically untouched is going to be a downgrade. Another one I cannot bring myself to convert is the 4E Striking Scorpion Exarch. Even though mine is, uh, unofficial resin I just can't bring myself to modify it. It's perfect. GSCUprising
It's very rare I put something together according to the instructions. Being a real man, the instructions are the last resort. Converting, for me, is one of my favourite parts of the hobby. I thoroughly enjoy making my army my own. I believe the last model I assembled unconverted was Jain Zar. Pacific81
I will say it is so heartening to read that conversion and kit bashing is so popular. I will say it perhaps shows the very dedicated nature of the forum as it I don't think it's reflected in the much larger populations on SM, some of which I would say feature 90%+ 'out of box' builds. Not that there is anything at all wrong with this, but I think its as a result of kits generally being harder to convert (monopose plastics and numbered configurations) and also much less 'official' conversions from GW for people to be exposed to. I had a conversation with a younger hobbyist recently who was terrified of even doing a simple head-swap, and had to be encouraged. Which is quite sad in a way and shows how things have changed, I think one of the first things I ever saw in the pages of WD was half an RTB01 marine that was stuck onto the bottom half of a Darkek! That was such great pose and model.
