Hey guys, I’ve decided to build a new Ultramarines and I’d like to learn a new skill.

I’d like to improve my use of decals.

The sheets they come on have the squad symbols and numbers as separate decals.

How do I apply both without it affecting the painted area or the original decal?

Also I’d like to paint this symbol on a banner but don’t know how to go about it?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Varnish is the key. Varnish the paint, apply the first decal, use softner to get the flattest result you can, varnish again. Apply second decal and apply softener to get the flattest decal again, varnish for the last time. Then apply matte / satin / gloss to match the rest of the surroundind area.

For the free-handing, I would start with a white primed pad, and paint in the red, leaving the areas that will be the sword, circle, and wreath in white.

I'd then do the blue, but not as a circle, just the edges, forming the U from the outside, using the original whites. Id then clean any overspill on the red or white.

Lastly the wreath, I'd do as a solid colour, and add the definition in red with my finest brush, starting in the middle of the wreath, and dragging to the outside.
