Lathe Biosas
The new White Dwarf (#517) has rules for a new game mode: Cavalry Engagement. You have 500 points to spend and every unit must have the MOUNTED Keyword. You can only use the Stratagems and Enhancements from the article, and if your Codex doesn't include a MOUNTED Character, you are not required to take one. You will select a model to be your WARLORD. When it comes to Enhancements you can select any units in your army, they don't need to be characters. ☆☆☆ There are 3 missions listed, but I haven't read them yet. This actually looks like fun and might encourage me to expand my armies. What do you think? N1SB
Thanks for highlighting this. I had flipped through this, the "Scenery Showcase" issue just this past weekend, and didn't notice that. Oh man. A lot of people bought the Krieg set and people like the Mechanicus horsies and one of the nice guys plays GSC, this should be A Thing. NTaW
This is cool looking. My Necron Lokhust models add up to 480, so presumably I could add an enhancement or two. I'll have a look at my lgs to see if issue 517 is in stock, though I haven't had luck with that in the past. Otherwise I'm at the mercy of people posting pictures of the relevant pages or GW putting the rules out in their app. Even with that I'm hard pressed to get anyone around me to play anything but matched play 2k games but a guy can hope. I hear hope works well in the grimdark future LameBeard and Lathe Biosas 1 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/387110-have-you-tried-the-new-warhammer-40k-game-cavalry-engagement/#findComment-6142155 Share on other sites
Lathe Biosas
Can I take pictures of the pages and post them for others to see, or is that verboten here? I'm not entirely sure really. There have been many images shared across the board that are similar in nature, but the line is somewhat blurry to me. I'd gladly accept some pics in a message if you're willing to share. I briefly saw a video of someone flipping through the pages but no content was truly viewable. Mr Farson
Ive had a flick through and a play of the mode Great fun really but can see quite a few factions being incredibly limited Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/387110-have-you-tried-the-new-warhammer-40k-game-cavalry-engagement/#findComment-6142827 Share on other sites
Lathe Biosas
Think that's why it ended up in White Dwarf and not elsewhere. NTaW
I managed to get the WD, and these rules and missions look quite fun to play. I wonder if allowing FLY units in would break the system. It would allow more armies to be involved at least, I think every faction has FLY units. GSCUprising
Sounds interesting. Will have to see about finding that issue. Though with GSC, I might be a bit limited. As long as i can soup in Brood Brothers, I'll be good. Lathe Biosas
GSC has some decent Mounted units – They should be fun to play with. Did I hear me being called? No? Well, I'm here anyway! Unfortunately, we have only the Atalan Jackals and the associated Jackal Alphus. Ridgerunners, etc. are vehicles. Jackals and the Alohis are the only o es with MOUNTED I their keywords, unless I am missing some. Mind you, replying an absolute horde of them might be fun. NTaW
I think the limitation to this being accessible is just how many mounted units you need to play for each army. For example, I could play my Necrons using 11 models. Lord attached to a unit of 6 Lokhust, then 2 pairs of Heavy Lokhust. These models are absolute staples in my 2k lists, the most alteration is occasionally 3 Heavies instead of 4. I'm not entirely sure that the 30 Atlan Jackals needed for 450 points is what GSC players actually have in their collections for gaming. phandaal
On 11/13/2025 at 6:38 AM, NTaW said: I hear hope works well in the grimdark future Probably works a lot better in OPR actually. Reason being there are no "mounted" units there (no keywords) so any model that looks right would be OK to use. That solves one of the big limitations. Also the points costs are different, so you would not need to spam dozens of minis to hit the point limit. Might need to bump it up though, because 500 points in OPR is over super quick.
