There's been lots of box breaking for 3.0 - I've bought a few additional MK2 units - probably should just have bought a second box. Despite the rules, the models have really appealed to a lot of people - rule packs are going for £15-20 here in the UK also.

I have minimal interest in the Saturnine but definitely interested in some MkII whilst waiting for my beloved IV so I'm here for box breaks.

Will be using it for some more Veteran type units.

One thing we have discovered is that its a good idea to suspend the detachment restrictions when playing an escalation league, perhaps up to around 1500pts or so.

Otherwise what I would class as a 'fun little warhammer army,' of a selection of unit types & vehicles that give you a varied game, is not possible without the onerous character tax (which is too punitive at small points values).

I can only speak anecdotally, but I bought the box and traded away the book, Saturnine units and weapon platform for more MkII marines. The rules are simply too clunky for me to bother with - especially since everybody seems to agree that army composition and scenarios are vastly inferior. So I’ll just stick to collecting and maybe pick up 4th if it seems any better.

With the adventof the Skitarri journal, I think there might actually now be as many missions for HH3 already as there were for all of HH2?

Yep, I think they know which side their bread is buttered on. So they will keep promoting the game as more people playing will bring in more traffic to their site.

Their battle reports are certainly inspirational, but I can't bring myself to support or watch them due to whoever it was that reported to GW about the person that was leaking release info. Which feels like a snitch in the classroom telling on another kid to teacher, which is deserving of admonishion and ridicule.

Same honestly. On top of I really don't like watching 3rd edition games either.

This is the weekend before our big annual event. Attendance is down 40%. Geopolitical issues are a factor (less internationals willing to travel into the USA), but the level of interest due to the edition change is still very noticeable.

Have you done your collab with TOC yet? Seems like you guys would get on. It;s just what the hobby needs.

More like they have played loads of games and have got used to it...and film the games so take ages.

I'm 4 games in now. The feel is the same, just the damn weapons. If you agree with me that the best status is "destroyed" you don't even really have to engage with the new statuses.

I must say that how vehicles get damage now feels "wrong" to me.

We had hullpoints for decades but that still felt different. Now a Kratos gets 12 damage and just vanishes. Felt very anticlimatic to me in my first game.

First shot fired killed my Kratos I painted for that game by the way, so some things obviously never change.

My experience with vehicle damage has been totally at either end of the spectrum this edition. Either it’s been nothing but chipping away a couple of hull points at a time so it takes all game to kill a couple of simple tanks, or (like you said) the vehicles get obliterated in a single shot.

So far I haven’t had a happy medium.

So kind of the same as always?

Partly, but I don’t think I’ve ever had as many situations where, even though I’ve got the right anti-armour weapons, it’s felt pointless shooting them at some vehicles because you just won’t cause enough damage to make a difference. Very often you’re better off shooting things like lascannons at terminators or something similar rather than tanks.

Overall I’m glad vehicles are harder to kill this edition but I think they might’ve swung the pendulum too far the other way. Except in the cases where some weapons like a melta Kratos have just been dialled up to 11!

From what I can glean, vehicles are one edition away from becoming like their 40k counter parts at this point. They are just big infantry models, that suffer all the same effects etc now aren't they? Large bucket of 'totally not wounds' that cop damage just like infantry? Only thing they still have going for them is armour values?

That's part of the problem with Youtube "creators" (a term I do not like because it's mostly commentary on the latest popular trend,  showcasing free stuff they got from GW or endlessly regurgitating existing lore rather than rarely creating anything of value). A large amount of them I expect started out with good intentions but eventually gave into self promotion and making money from it with sponsors and Patreon nonsense. Like you say those guys have to say it's great if they have built a business model on a single GW product which makes them utterlly biased. Hype trains derail any interest I have watching these nowadays, especially Heresy ones which are a niche within a niche.

I personally think 3rd edition isn't designed for the loyal followers, it's designed to bring in new customers who have not played the first two editions and every edition to come will no doubt be the same. Once they have your cash you will be forgotten.

I've repeatedly tried to get into 3rd but can't find anyone interested to be honest so have absolutely no incentive.
