hd3
The Silver Stars 'Legion' are a creation of @apologist. The instigators of the War of the False Primarch and the leaders of the 11 chapter strong partisan faction that attempted to overthrow the high lords of Terra in the name of the returned primarch Volnoscere. They were opposed by the pentarchy, five chapters allowed to swell beyond the normal chapter limits and supplied by the high lords to ensure stability. Imperium Aeterna. Apologist argues that the real source of the war of the false primarch setting is the consequences of the Silver Stars return on the imperium. The pseudolegion itself is more of a plot device. I disagree honestly. I feel like the mystery of the truth of the silver stars is the real core. For the record I'm firmly in the "true legion" camp returning from exile. Because Volnoscere being a true loyal primarch and failing to restore the imperium to the emperor's original vision is the grimmest darkest thing I can imagine. It's a great setting, except in my opinion the red fish marines. For this pseudo-legionary, I used a new mkii power armour body with one of the old mkii helmets from burning of prospero for that old school space marine look. For paint, Tamiya fine light grey primer and a base coat of army painter 'mummy robes' for the initial base coat. I kinda screwed up the shoulder pad and let the paint pool up too much in one corner and now I'm trying to even it out again with more thin costs of mummy robes. I fear I might need to use thinner to clear the whole shoulder and start again. Firedrake Cordova
Worst case, a bit of IPA and a toothbrush should get the shoulderpad paintless, and you can then just re-do that area GSCUprising 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/387129-silver-star-some-things-are-better-left-redacted/#findComment-6143111 Share on other sites
hd3
So I started blocking in the base colours here. I used black legion for the armour seals, sotek green for the chest and helmet, dryad bark for the forget and shoulder pad trim. Then on top of the drybsd bark, I used screaming bell and Leadbelcher for the metallic details with runelord brass for a little extra contrast here and there. I also added apothecary white over the main armour and then refined it with more mummy robes. I think the recesses need more detail though. Maybe some grey? hd3
Finished, more or less the model today. I used screamer pink for the banding on the shoulders and pro acrylic turquoise to highlight the sotek green parts. For the recesses on the white armour, I added paynes' grey with some flow improver to add a little more shading. Naturally there is a generous coat of nuln oil over the metallic details and the bolt gun casing is coal black by pro acrylic. I also used bold titanium white to add a spot highlight here and there on the white armour. For the base, I used Leadbelcher and pro acryll magnesium with Vallejo rust wash. Firedrake Cordova
I think the Paynes grey with flow improver worked quite well. Basilicanum Grey with a lot of Contrast Medium can work quite well for the same purpose, if applied as a recess shade rather than an all-over wash. hd3 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/387129-silver-star-some-things-are-better-left-redacted/#findComment-6143739 Share on other sites
Terminatorinhell
I'm a fan of that color scheme, it's a really good blue and with the white and gold it gives a good effect. hd3 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/387129-silver-star-some-things-are-better-left-redacted/#findComment-6143765 Share on other sites

Thanks! You should check out the "war of the false primarch" site for more examples. The command triumvirate of Volnoscere, Riverhead and Vox Volnoscere in particular. They have some fantastic examples. https://warofthefalseprimarch.blogspot.com/ Finally added the decals. I think it needs one more coat of micro-sol though. I honestly didn't know it isopropyl. I just saw the opportunity for a cheap joke. ;) Edited Tuesday at 03:40 PM by GSCUprising Firedrake Cordova, Dr_Ruminahui and hd3 2 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/387129-silver-star-some-things-are-better-left-redacted/#findComment-6144011 Share on other sites
