GryphonnePromethean
I finally picked up the Secutarii upgrade kit today and worked some pieces into my Skit/Auxilia lineup. As you can probably tell my the extremely mixed priming and painting, these guys have already lived in a lot of different configurations but I think I've worked it to a good blend of the two factions that I can keep iterating on where it's more or less unit-legible with 20 on the board. My plan has been to make dudes I love and then work out how to field them for games. I think it will probably be Boarding Actions in the end. Double Powerfist might leave the unit and end up as a custom datasheet bodyguard unit for a Skatros I've retooled for space hulk combat. GryphonnePromethean
Here are some solo models. I'm pursuing these guys as an art project more than a playable army but at the same time I find that thinking about how they'd play is really good inspiration for specific and interesting detail. These guys are still held together with glue dots as I was waiting to see the Pilgryms before I finalized them. I think I'm good to go with these and if anything the Pilgryms will mix with the Velataris to make Vanguard. My concept of the faction has them almost pathologically fixated on symmetry, balance, and trinity structures both aesthetically and mechanically. I think their standard deployment for a Boarding Patrol is a central character or special unit supported by three 6-man squads (hammer, anvil, tongs) made up of a four Vestarii and two Astartes. Standard Vestarii Lasrifle: • Probably the closest to a "generic" model in the group. • A Skitarii body, legs, and backpack with Auxilia head and arms. Mk3 Space Marine (wrist armor?) for shoulder pads. • On a base level I want these guys to scan as Skitarii more than Guard but my lore is that these are a blended force where the Prometheans are really desperate for bodies to send to war but also characteristically considerate of mortal lives, so you wind up with units of standard-issue skitarii fighting alongside outrageously-armored unaugmented humans. Vestarii Lineleader w/ Sabre and Handflamer • a one-per-unit captain model. • Skitarii body, legs, backpack, Auxilia arms and weapons, Serberys Raiders head. • One of two captain models I've put together. I've modeled them both with longitudinal? plumes, which I'm pretty sure I want to function as some kind of mechanical signifier. • Hammer squads get longitudinal/frontal crests/plumes, Anvils get transverse crests, and then Tongs get rear-mounted splayed feather plumes. Vestarii Manipulant •All-Melee special character specifically for Boarding Actions. • Auxilia Lasrifle body, legs, and Powerfist, Auxilia Velataris powerfist, Ironstrider head?, Heresy Magos Dominus shoulders, mystery antenna. • The idea is that this is kind of a bodyguard unit for a Boarding Skatros. His job is to pulp anything that tries to walk up on the stiltman and as a bonus to offset the positional disadvantage of that he can incidentally open or hold close nearby doors. Dr. Clock
Awesome! I've found the Navy Breacher squad a good place for rando Auxilia/Skit dudes to land - especially that Manipulant would be a great chainfist Breacher methinks. If you end up with a full shield unit, Subductors are also a decent pick in any Imperial army for a quick 100pt scoring/screening piece... They're more resilient than most other hundred point units in the game because you're literally just paying for their 4++ and calling it a day. Cheers, The Good Doctor. Thank you for the kind words and recommendations! Breachers are definitely on the list for bits. I've just clear out some backlog before I embark on the quest to file down all the Imperial navy markings and replace it with Promethean cult glyphs. My initial impetus for all this was a short story pitch I came up with for the BL open submissions a few years ago. Set on the Dark Krakens' underwater home world, the idea was that because there were all these ancient wrecks and flooded habs at the bottom of the ocean it was the perfect training grounds for developing elite breacher crews.
