Wolfblade - William King (2003)
I haven't found a review thread about the Space Wolf stories of William King and Lee Lightner, so here it is:

Recently, I read Wolfblade for the first time and man, does the style 20 years back was different to nowadays.
I guess that is nothing special, as I made that expereince already when reading Storm of Iron

So maybe I just list the aspects I thought were interesting:

  • Ragnar is described with rather human qualities like experiencing fear and anxiety
  • There are several mentions of Earth instead of Terra
  • The whole story felt like a polit intrigue and reminded me of "Vaults of Terra" triology, in a good way!
  • The Space Wolves acted more like a watch pack and once again I was reminded of their similiar role on 30k (watch packs to the primarchs)
  • The banter between Torin and Haegr becomes monotonous after a while
  • I liked the mysterious aura surrounding the High Lords of Terra, who are left in background but have a huge impact
(I now see the appeal of leaving them more obscure instead of knowing them all [I don't remember which frater named that in a past discussion])

Anyway, a great story from the past.
