Today's was an AoS story, as somewhat expected.

Teaser for tomorrow:

Imagine if it's actually just a recipe and we get some kind of 40k themed food thing.

They have read my BL topic want of a kroot cookbook!

Some possible feasting themes ( lore, rules or otherwise ) :

-- Kroot
-- Tyranids
-- Ratlings
-- Ogres ( AoS )

Though perhaps the focus is more on the word Acrid ( wich I had to look up and apparently means bitter ?)

Not necessarily related to this, but I still wonder if we might see one or two kill teams ( like they had in white dwarf before, but now all out of rotation.) or some other kill team representation.

Probably something Flesh Eater Courts related. Feasts but with hidden corruption is the theme of them.

After today's Flesh Eater Courts story, this was the teaser for tomorrow's offering:

What a riveting read! Right, we’ve found our cravat – wine-red, if you must know – and we’re off out the door. We’re famished, so we hope they’ve put on a good spread. Clear the table, because tomorrow’s Grotmas Calendar gift is a co-op adventure in the 41st Millennium.

Based on AoS getting Co-Op Spearhead, so we reckon this is Co-Op Combat Patrol rules?

I'll guess some Kill Team co-op missions.

So, for someone as me who don't play the game anymore this calendar is abysmal and I do hope we will see something very interesting at least for christmas/beginning of new year( I miss the Aeldari calendar year).

But for you Fraters and Sisters who still play, is it something cool or interesting/useful?

Sincerely curious since I hope at least someone is happy with this.

I play Space Wolves and Blood Angels so I am quite happy this year. Both the new Detachments look fun and interesting ways to play.

Im let down by it. Its just normal articles with grotmas attached to it. Just mixed stuff that makes little sense. Only good thing is its more spread out for each major system. And thats said as a guy who only plays 40k.

The rules we got are cool and thematic but its basically just the detachments they promised with the dataslates anyway. Again matching the fact that its just normal articles sprinkled with grotmas.

Maybe we're getting a range of 40k breakfast cereals?

I'm not someone who expected anything even close to the gluttonous hand out we got last year, so I'm not complaining.  Got two detachments for factions I play so actually pretty happy with it, all considered.

Today's Grotmas article is a direct 1-to-1 reprint of the Space Marine vs Tyranids Co-Op Operations previously published in White Dwarf issue 515.

Grotmas is dead and WarCom is wearing it's skin.

Next up on the Grotmas Calendar, we’re checking in with a rather noble admiral who sails the void in the grim darkness of the far future.

Someone should probably go and do a wellness check on AoS since they've somehow ended up getting even less this year than last time, despite their inclusion in the advent calendar being one of the major marketing points.

Honestly, getting something that was a paid for set of rules for free is the closest thing to Christmas that a corporation is ever going to do. Grotsmas lives.

I miss the old Christmas rumour calendar. The current round of articles just feel like "normal". Feels very low effort compared with other years.

Maybe they are hard at work putting the finishing touches to 11th edition? :ermm:

Thats not a job for a companies community team.

While it could apply to comparisons with last years grotmas detachments, it doesnt apply to the other year's rumor engine ones.

Besides, 11th edition is long done and at the printers if its supposed to come next summer.

With the core rules free, you can check out future issues of White Dwarf for more Operations missions.

Not likely, now you have set the precedent of releasing them online for free. Bit annoyed as (aside from the Space Marine centred issue) they were the only reasons I picked up that short run of the print mag.

Yriel and a story presumably, teasing the corsairs in the same way the Iron Warriors were.

Rehashed content from White Dwarf isn't helping with the general feeling of low effort for this Grotmas. I do wonder if something changed from the original plan, and this is just scrambling to get any content out, or if this low effort was always the intention. Same with the delayed detachments from the previous dataslate, were they really not ready at the time, or they were held back deliberately so they could be in Grotmas?

I suspect the run-up to the new edition of 40,000 is having some major disruptive effects, as we're roughly at the point where they'd be finalising rules and such before stuff is sent to print. This is mildly fascinating in of itself, as they discussed on the first episode of Dice Roll how the rules writing team had doubled in size since the start of 10E. Not running the Grotmas Engine may indicate... well, anything. Could be they don't have any exciting to tease (seems unlikely), could be that any teases give the game away way too early.

Personally, I think steering away from the rules / painting side and doing twenty-five days of little short stories would've been fine. Little side-steps into the broader setting, one-off adventures, etc.

Nah, they're currently messing up 12th so no worries there :)

Bold to assume they'd think that far ahead

Regardless, it's still little effort vs last year's offerings. I already stated before I had no expectations that it would be at the same level of good, but the drastic drop off of quality is still disturbing.
