I found this time ago on Blusky. Someone collected the cassettes with the music used to sound in the old GW stores,as piped music. AirPlay and such.

You can, even, see in the pic the artists/groups and songs, so you can search and listen again like in the old GW stores of old.

I remember one summer in the now long gone GW Luton that we would go into the store and hear the same songs on a playlist. we were never entirely sure if it was a playlist made by GW or just the manager's favourite mixtape, I guess my teenage brain finally got an answer.

Wow. That is a very era specific, and awesome, playlist.

Imagine if young me with my long hair and heavy metal wardrobe knew that I'd still be at it and that plastic Primarchs would exist.

Appreciate the strong shot of nostalgia.

My eyes won't let me read that these days. Is there any Metallica or Slayer on there?!

Not sure, but it probably lacks such material you requested...

Songs I first heard in a GW that are burned into my mind forever

Babooshka - Kate Bush

Scoiby Snacks - Fun Lovin Criminals

mmm mmm mmm mmm - crash test dummies

steal my sunshine - Len

Loser - Beck

one week - bare naked ladies

cats in the cradle - ugly kid joe

That's amazing. I'm sure we only had four or five of them in the branch I worked at. It was a nice perk of working a whole day solo that I had total musical power!

I can't remember how many we had, but I know we had one less when the manager got sick of one of the songs, pulled out the cassette and jumped up and down on it.

When I was a kid it played a mix of Motley Crue, Metallica and the Lord of the Rings sound track. I still rember one of the staff members describing rhe video for girls grils girls.

I remember another staff member telling us how the night before he f*:cuss:ed the manager of cannabis corpse when they were in town. He added "Don't worry, she was a chick".

They certainly have changed their music and hiring policies.

I worked in a store in the early '00s and they had switched to CDs by then but definitely a lot of those songs still on the playlists! There are a few there that you heard too many times and I still struggle to listen to today haha (something most retail workers have PTSD about, but at least the GW had a lot of rock and alternative stuff).

Of course when the manager wasn't in and on the late club evenings you put on your own!
