Since we kind of started "What is your best guess/wish/..."-topics, which character would you like to get a book in the Horus Heresy character series?
As a reminder, we got four books in this series so far:

  • Legio Custodes - Constantin Valdor (Valdor - Birth of the Imperium by Chris Wraight 2020)
  • Dark Angels - Luther (Luther - First of the Fallen by Gav Thorpe 2021)
  • Imperial Fists - Sigismund (Sigismund - The Eternal Crusader by John French 2022)
  • Emperors Children - Eidolon (Eidolon - The Auric Hammer by Marc Collins 2024)

A personally wish for me would be Hastur Sejanus for the Luna Wolves and a bit obvious, Sevatar for the Night Lords as well as Forrix for the Iron Warriors.

I can't think of a character for the Space Wolves though.

As an afterthought: We got zero books in 2023 and 2025, kind of a bummer when you have got 15 legions + different fractions (Mechanicum, Imperial Guard, ...) left.

This is a bit of a hard one as I think this series should focus on pivotal characters of the period and I’m not sure who would qualify?  Having said that, maybe Kelbor-Hal covering why he joined Horus or the birth of the Dark Mechanicum?   Barabas Dantioch on why he stayed loyal and/or 1st Captain Pech for an insider’s look into the Alpha Legion might be interesting in the right hands.

My bad, I didn't look up if there was a similiar topic.  Thanks for pointing it out @Nagashsnee
If a mod could do me the favour of merging these together, thank you!

Its been almost 3 years since, plenty of books and lore additions since then that would change peoples answers and outlook. No harm in a new thread.

My answer just hasnt changed haha.

My big ones:

Typhus - man is criminally underrepresented, especially compared to the other 3 aligned champions.

Kelbor Hal - A rather important faction leader who managed to get the most powerful sub-division of the Imperium to tear itself in half. He needs to be more than a prop.

Others I'd appreciate:

Barban Falk - for all his appearances, I still don't really understand him pre-daemon-influence. Maybe something nonlinear so we can actually understand how he got where he is.

Jubal Khan - Just because he was underused before his death.

Fafnir Rann - C'mon, it's Rann. Always entertaining under not-Abnett's pen.

Sevatar - Natch.

Raldoron - Blood Angels First Captain's personality remains missing. Please advise if found.

Autek Morr - Give us the moon man!

Marius Gage - Ultramarines First Captain remains missing. Please advise if found.

Little Horus? Falkus Kibre? Hastur Sejanus? Tybalt Marr? - Take your pick.

Any Salamander

Any Raven Guard

Edited by Roomsky

+1 for Calas Typhon, and I'd love to see it penned by Chris Wraight. He's an obvious favorite pick for anything, but he's dealt with the Death Guard often enough before and his take on this character would be really interesting.

And another +1 for Kelbor-hal, or barring him, Sota-nul. Justin D Hill did a short on the disciples and it was pretty fantastic, so I wouldn't mind seeing him on this, but honestly anything covering this faction would be great. Johnathan D Beer could be another newer BL author to do some Dark Mech in the Heresy. Fresh blood in the Heresy and now the Scouring doing full novels and character series entries would be nice to see.

Otherwise I'd just echo Roomsky's list for the most part with a few exceptions:

-for a Raven Guard character, I'd put forward Kaedes Nex. He has a mini now, and a mysterious, undocumented murder spree across the Heresy that eventually lands him in the Sol system and on Mars for a short stint. John French just wrote him in Dropsite Massacre, too.

-for Salamanders, I'd actually put forward Cassian Dracos. Again, we just got some of his perspective in Dropsite Massacre. Though I think if we follow the journey of the Ebon Drake at all, it'd be best to cover him from mostly outside perspectives like Xiaphas Jurr or Narik Dreygur. The Disciples of the Flame is just a really neat concept and something I'd like to see explored more, but there's a lot of story as Cassian Vaughn that feels like an un-mined vein of gold.

-I'm split on what would be cool to see for Iron Warriors. A non-McNeill author handling Forrix could be neat, but Falk is an interesting idea. I'm honestly all for a 3rd option here as long as it's not Dantioch, like Idriss Krendl or something. The Iron Warriors feel short on personalities at times. But Forrix still seems like the most obvious choice if we're tending to go by first captain types.

-if we see a Jubal Khan (or Qin Xa, or whoever) character book, let's actually have Wraight not do this one, yeah? He's done so much heavy lifting for the White Scars and he's been so good at it, but I feel like we could use some fresh eyes on the faction. Since I've already been author-wishlisting a fair amount here, I'd put forward Noah Van Nguyen.

I'm also going to suggest a character series entry for Endryd Haar. He's very representative of the Blackshields, and again, he has a nice, big mini. And I think it'd be worth it to settle the plotlines that brought him to the Beta-Garmon conflict with a ton of doomsday weapons, and maybe move him towards Terra...  and make up for Dan Abnett utterly wasting him for no particularly good reason. Ugh, Saturnine. I still have such a love/hate relationship with that book. I'm not sure who would be up for writing a ridiculous final romp with Haar. Maybe Guy Haley? ...Denny Flowers? Probably whoever feels like they'd have the most fun with it.

Finally, Jenetia Krole. If Valdor gets a book, she probably should, too.

Quote

Little Horus?

'The melancholic humour is misunderstood,' he said. 'You think too literally. It has, in fact, the quality of autumn. It is the spirit of contemplative change, the accelerator of death, the enabler of ends and beginnings. Autumn clears away the world so that a new one may rise. This is my purpose. I am not sad.'

But after they aborted his arc and never gave him a proper character book, all he ever looked was angry.

  • Dark Mechanicum: Kelbor-Hal 100%
  • Mechanicum: Zagreus Kane

I feel like having both of them coming out at the same time would be such a fun idea. Play on the idea and explore how having two Fabricator-Generals would affect the Mechanicum as a whole.

But for the other factions:

  • Sisters of Silence: Jenetia Krole
  • Solar Auxilia: Aevos Jovan
  • Iron Warriors: Narik Dreygur
  • White Scars: Qin Xa
  • Space Wolves: Hvarl Red-Blade
  • Night Lords: Zso Sahaal
  • Blood Angels: Raldoron
  • Iron Hands: Autek Mor
  • World Eaters: Ehrlen
  • Ultramarines: Lucretius Corvo
  • Death Guard: Calas Typhon
  • Thousand Sons: Amon
  • Sons of Horus: Hastur Sejanus
  • Word Bearers: Zadkiel
  • Salamanders: Cassian Dracos
  • Raven Guard: Kaedes Nex
  • Alpha Legion: Exodus

Once every faction received a novel within the series, I feel like it would be a good chance to repeat and further expand on other characters. In my preferred choice for a first wave would be a mix of characters with some previously only one-off or a few appearances or major characters. I think both would help flesh the setting out a bit more in different ways.

For example, I feel like something like one on Ehrlen could help expand not only on a character with really only a single major appearance, but also the larger split within the World Eaters leading up to Isstvan III. Zadkiel could be a fun way to take both another look at the Word Bearers and revisit a book that many consider to be the worst of the Heresy and maybe add a bit more depth to the character there. Show why he might've been decided to command the Furious Abyss and maybe end with the book leading into Battle for the Abyss.
