This doesn't give me a lot of Hope.

Just finished the book (Helbrecth Sin of Hope), enjoyed it. More than the previous Helbrecht one.

No spoilers but I enjoyed the High Marshall personal journey trought the story. Other 2 protagonists, Elysian and Squat have a solid part on the story aswell.

Overall a good Black Templar book in my opinion. Of the recent ones, Broken Crusade and this one, are solid picks.

His journey in discovering his kinfolk?

Dang, Zimmerman's really getting the push, isn't he? I haven't connected with any of his work for 40K so far, but I'm starting to think this might be because I have bad taste in books (as opposed to a taste for bad books). Am I so out of touch?

Next Scouring novel announced - a fight for Mars, and written by French!

The Horus Heresy is over. Now, in Wrath of Terra by John French, the vengeful Imperium turns its eyes towards Mars – a world of nightmare machines and the holdouts of the traitorous Dark Mechanicum.

As the war heads towards the Martian cauldron of ruin, an Ultramarine fights to secure the future of the Imperium, a defeated Iron Warrior seeks sanctuary among the wasteland beyond the light of Sol, and a Blood Angel fights for salvation in the shadow of his father's death.

Meanwhile, back on Terra, while primarchs and High Lords scramble for power, Moriana Mouhausen, once of the Chosen of Malcador, seeks to balance the needs of the future against the fury of the present.

Exactly who I was hoping would write it. Maybe a bit of a hot take but with this novel 2026 has got to be in contention for best year of the decade so far. Lots and lots of stuff to enjoy this year, even if it is a little back loaded

Going off the spine it looks very thick. Maybe the reason we've been waiting so long is because there is so much in it?

John French is alright. I wouldn't say his books are bad but he doesn't really appeal to me. If this was a solo project I wouldn't go for it, but I'll probably get this.

I'm actually so relieved it's French, and especially that it's French writing about Mars. He always brings complexity and dignity to the characters he writes about - and he's skilled at communicating the weight of history on a faction, especially important when dealing with the Mechanicum.

I wonder if Kelbor Hal's finally gonna get some more focus here or if Sota-Nul's gonna steal his thunder again.

Now I can finally stop complaining about the lack of Scouring, and go back to complaining about Black Legion 3. Just as nature intended.

That being said, I am glad it's French as well (Wraight again would have also been fine). Feelings about some of his earlier stuff aside, he really grew on me with Slaves to Darkness, so another ensemble book sounds great from him.

Glad their keeping the IW character around as well, if it's the same one from Ashes

But yeah, a second Scouring novel - does that mean the release pattern is one per year?

Yeah, I'm going to be really interested in the release date of this one. Ashes was announced in July and released in October. While I am glad to see the announcement, I wonder if we are looking at weeks or months in terms of the actual release

Feels like it will be out quite soon from the article. Before year's end certainly I think.

I feel like they would have to have a scouring novel at least once a year.

As for anything else im glad its French, we could have gotten Thorpe or Kyme which are both cursed.  It would be nice if say ADB came out of nowhere as its now been over 4 years since we got a full length novel from him.
