Oh man, I kinda feel bad for the people who already bought him.  That's just about as fast as the time they put the Primaris Company Champion back up for special order.  Then slapped him into Legends right after he shipped.

The Primaris Company Champion was always a Legends datasheet.

He was in the main/starter/edition change PDF and moved (back?) to Legends when the Codex dropped.

It appears you are correct. He was in Legends for the duration of his availability in 9th, but was included with the 10th-Ed lineup of Space Marine datacards. Then promptly demoted again in favor of the Company Heroes unit for the Codex.

Must have been a glorious three months.

It looks like all Limited Edition models get sent to the Land of Legends.... except for Valerian of the Adeptus Custodes. He's in their codex.

Uriel Ventris is Limited Edition and securely in the codex as long as they keep writing his novels.

Uriel Ventris has no model anymore. They discontinued him a couple of months ago. He'll be in Legends once the next Codex hits, just like all the other models that GW abandon. Unless they switch him over from a Black Library limited edition model to a mainstream release.

I wouldn't be surprised if they repack his model to not be limited edition - but they do have a history of rotating models available even if they're in the codex.

Do Ultramarines currently have more characters and special units than Custodes have kits?

Potentially, but they don't have the most of anybody - and that says more about how lazy they've been about Custodes.

Not even close.

Ultramarines kits: Guillian, Calgar, Sicarius, Titus, Tigurius, Guardians of Ultramar, Victrix Guard - total 8.

Custodes have: Trajan, Valerian & Aleya, Shield Captain, Blade Champion, Custodian Guard, Custodian Wardens, Vertus Praetors, Allarus Terminators, Sisters of Silence, Contemptor Dreadnought, Rhino, Land Raider. Total: 12

I'm sure some people would choose to remove the Contemptor, Rhino & Land Raider claiming that they aren't Custodes units (which isn't true, they're in the Codex) but that still leaves 9 kits, more than the Ultramarines.

More importantly, most of the Custodes kits are generic units so will get more use and value compared to the Ultramarines, where every kit is something unique (apart from the Victrix Guard maybe) and mostly characters, Also, a number of the Custodes kits have multiple builds, often also allowing characters or unit variants to be built. And then we have all the Forge World stuff where Custodes have lots and the 40k Ultramarines have almost nothing (most FW Ultramarine stuff is 30k only).
