Jolemai
Somewhat related, but Auspex Tactics updated their BA tier list following this Detachment. As always, YMMV with these kind of things, but it's interesting nonetheless: Oh, and I've cleaned the thread up. Play nice please. Ash
I've played 4 Games with RCO now. Death Company are very good, I took advice from another player and will consider burning a secondary card on first turn to gain 2CP for fight on death ASAP. If the DC get shot off the objective I sticky it, If the DC get charged they fight on death. The Death Company Dread is very useful but i'm on the fence with him still. I usually reserve him otherwise he always gets shot off the board. He is great in LfL as he usually doesn't have any OC to lose. I'm sparing with LFL as I usually want to put Strats on units at some point. Getting off Red Wrath is usually enough for the DC Dread. SG in units of three are great for chasing down objectives, even single models. Once locked onto an objective they hold nicely at end game they can't be shot without giving the obj over and just sit there requiring a model to take the obj in melee. Jolemai
Has anyone else given this a go yet? Unfortunately, I haven't been able to play lately. DemonGSides
I have gotten exactly one game in over the past 6 months or so. Just not been conducive to the time I've had. jaxom
I don’t have the units to really take advantage of it so I’ve not used it. This detachment feels like it needs at least 2 for mileage. Otherwise if your DC go down, 2 of your best stratagems can't be played. My feeling is that you need 2 units of Jump DC (1 led by Lemartes and one by a Chaplain with Sanguinary Tear or Master of the Red Thirst) as well as a DC Dreadnought. Then you have sufficient units with enough hitting power to go to town. They can be pretty gnarly as a mid board bully. It's an interesting prospect and I ran a very similar list to what you're suggesting with the AI detachment. I bet in this new one it'd be even better. Karhedron
For sure, I imagine that as the number of DC goes up, the return on investment does too. I can easily see 30+ as well as a Dread working really well. I am just an old timer who remembers what all the BAs who fell to the Black Rage were gathered in a single Death Company unit before battle. Running multiple squads just feels strange to me. The again, we are supposed to be getting some new Intercessors in the rumoured 11th edition box set. I really don't need any more so maybe I should paint them black and say they fell to the rage before they even got out of the box. jaxom 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/387233-grotmas-ba-detachment/page/3/#findComment-6153250 Share on other sites
Secret_Minis
I am the same... last time I played a game I reckon was 2005 and it was a blob of DC with as many thunder hammers as possible. But I do like the idea of a mass of black running at people. Ash
Two units of 5 Death company with a chaplain in each, 2 units of Sanguinary Guard as MSU with a DC dread and your away. Add more spice to taste, increase to a 6 man SG and a 10 man DC, throw in Lemartes and you're good to go. jaxom 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/387233-grotmas-ba-detachment/page/3/#findComment-6153328 Share on other sites
