Tacitus
Assuming you're not forced into it by a LEADER rule i.e. Doubling Calgar AND Sicarius (which is only available to the Victrix only Sicarius) or Attaching Sicarius to Assault Intercessors - which version of each do you lean towards? Calgar is practically a no brainer. Unless you just absolutely positively can't afford the 60 points for the two Vixtrix Guards - who are a steal of a deal as extra body guard bodies - or you want to attach to Terminators its Gravis time. Terminator Calgar doesn't get anything but cheaper to offset the two extra bodies and the dubious valued FNP. Sicarius is a different animal though. Honour Or Death and Lead From the Front is an actual choice. Would you rather have 6" Scout moves or 0CP Heroic Interventions? Are you even paying 40PPM for 4 Wound-No-invlun models? And Did anyone else notice they don't actually have pistols? Are you sticking with 30 ppm for 3 wound 4++(Rerollable 1's) models? Casual Heresy
I'm taking my Ultras to a big tournament in April next year and I am taking much of the new stuff for various reasons. First off I'm taking Terminator Calgar instead of Victrix version, precisely because of the points saving. It gives me a bit more wiggle room to have fire support and objective doer's behind the multiple melee threats. Plus I prefer the new version to his Gravis version. I'm taking new Sicarius over old for the reactive move shenanigans. My plan is to have Calgar and Sicarius in one big Victrix squad in a Land Raider and very aggressively charge up the table. It sounds mad but once they are lodged deep in enemy lines the opponent might panic and give them a wide berth rather than risk shooting them or being close enough for heroic. Once that squad is in close they're too much of a threat to risk leaving alone and will hopefully take pressure off the rest of my army. But as a deathstar they are more than capable of dealing with whatever is sent to deal with them. As for the Bladeguard vs Victrix question, I'm taking both. I've got one full squad of Victrix, which will be backed up by two full squads of Bladeguard, one of which is in a Land Raider, the other hitching a lift in an Executioner. Bladeguard are my favourite unit in the game in terms of look and rules so didn't want to leave home without them. The only reason I'm not trying three full squads is because Victrix arrived. The Victrix I also love but I didn't want to take more than one as it was clear from the get go they were going to be seeing a points increase they're that good. Plus I still cling to the illusion I'm a lore based player and more than one squad feels wrong to me for some reason. And the thing about Calgar + Sicarius + Victrix because that's all that Sicarius can use is just how much movement they have. Calgar gets them move, advance, shoot, and charge all day. Sicarius gives them (potentially) another move AND Heroic Intervention. Now I suspect its overkill, but the amout of board that unit can travel and still do stuff is pretty breathtaking I agree. I actually played around with Calgar in Terminator Armor surrounded by Terminators and I don't think it sucks. With Calgar and the Blade of Ultramar everyone gets to be in Tactical Doctrine all day long, so everyone has a power fist, and everyone gets to move advance shoot and charge with those power fists. There was an alternate version where it was only 25 Terminators, but everyone had a leader, AND there were four Dreads behind them. Not sure which one there I like better.
