Mogger351
I feel for the majority of people it's the mouth they're most bothered by on the head, lower jaw? I don't see a problem given the angle, you can basically draw a straight line down from the crown to the edge of the jawline, with the ear extending behind, which is true of most people with a heavy jawline. The paintjob is overdoing the lip and gum I think though. Corswain
He's..... fine.. Kinda looks like he's dribbling.  I think GW would have better reception with some of these models if they were just 1 for 1 replications of the old models and poses with modern sculpting tech. Abaddon's described as too large to fit into power armour in a few places, yet fits comfortably into a suit during ADBs Black Legion novels. Huron's at least been described as being massive by comparison to other Space Marines, and moreso since his injuries. Evil Eye
Sorry to keep posting observations on this thing from my friends but this was pointed out to me and it's completely ruined it for me; the pose is basically the Emperor's Champion but mirrored. It's not 100%, of course, but close enough to exacerbate the already generic feel of the pose. grailkeeper, Wispy, Doghouse and 7 others 1 2 7 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/387305-new-huron-blackheart/page/4/#findComment-6148316 Share on other sites
DeadFingers
Noticed that his pals are also visible in the video, without the extra clutter of the picture in the article. Still blurry though, but at least there'a a bit more of their silhouette visible.    Heard there's supposed to be a proper preview show halfway through January, can anyone confirm? My google-fu is failing me.  If there is a preview in about 3 weeks, hopefully we'll get to see these lads then. skylerboodie, grailkeeper, HolyPestilience and 2 others 3 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/387305-new-huron-blackheart/page/4/#findComment-6148317 Share on other sites

Castellan Wulfrik
I've been sitting on a small Red Corsair force for years waiting for a new Huron, I've been wanting to do a full Red Corsair army since the old Imperial Armour Badab War books. So I'm not exaggerating when I say this is a disappointment over a decade and half in the making for me. Waiting this long to just get the most generic mid Chaos character I've seen in ages, he somehow appears both bland and overwrought at the same time. My disappointment is immeasurable and my Christmas is ruined. Jokes aside, I am absolutely gutted. I wanted the sundered armour, a face that inspired dread and loyalty, the regal yet twisted pose of a corrupted king; instead I got knee flairs on a 90's cartoon villain. Lathe Biosas, darkdark25 and Arakanii 1 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/387305-new-huron-blackheart/page/4/#findComment-6148321 Share on other sites

Might be worth picking up a resin "reproduction" just so you don't end up ruining an original metal one if it goes wrong (and also resin is easier to cut up) but still.  And yeah, honestly there's all manner of poses they could have drawn from if they didn't want to just upscale the old miniature. This one for instance: (Side note, does anyone know who drew/painted this?) The rendering style, proportions, and pose all point to David Gallagher. I'm not in front of my art library, I'd look in his book. It's 90% his work. I get the usefulness of Minicompare, especially for stuff that's been around for a while, but it should always be taken with a grain of salt for anything modern. grailkeeper
The video has 175k views in only a few hours, on Christmas day. Wow! Â The voice acting is good in it. The introduction of the more mechanical aspects to the voice as he starts talking about being a traitor echoes the character's own development. That's a good piece of sound design. GryphonnePromethean
Without an emphasis on the Flamethrower Claw he ends up too close to generic CSM or Word Bearer territory. I'll also offer that this is part of why they shouldn't sculpt *every single model* as if they were a dynamic pose hero unit. This guy is supposed to be special but he isn't because 70% of the modern line looks like a captain. That said, this is going to look perfect with a flaming skull in the claw and some OSL.  Evil Eye, HolyPestilience and Lathe Biosas 3 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/387305-new-huron-blackheart/page/4/#findComment-6148343 Share on other sites

I get the usefulness of Minicompare, especially for stuff that's been around for a while, but it should always be taken with a grain of salt for anything modern. To be fair it is a solo project, and there is a discord to give direct feedback, and from helping out there I can say getting good pictures and measurements is hell if you don't own the mini or have a proper way to photograph them. So the promotional material is usually the best we can get.  Also Huron should be accurate as he is on a 50mm (you can tell by the way it is slimmer than abaddons 60mm* but way wider than a 40mm) so we can be sure in this case  *60mm bases are actually 64mm wide, took Kukulza a handful of days too fix every instance of those being treated like actual 60mm Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/387305-new-huron-blackheart/page/4/#findComment-6148344 Share on other sites
