All the FW Marine characters were fantastic and deserve an update.

Agreed! So many great models gone and characters that were missed opportunities such as the Badab characters.

I am happy becouse this will spawn a lot of awesome conversions, as it is not bad, but not satisfying for a lot of us! I will base mine on the early 2000(I think) artwork! But probably with the sweet old chaos vehicle half/metal head.

Once again, the Vox Printeri have spoken. This version of Huron is now available for those intrepid searchers who know the right places to look.

Hopefully they might do a MTO of the old FW minis when these launch

They actually did one in 2024.
Not sure if that would make it more or less likely for them to do it again.

I bought Loth. The sculpts are crazy detailed.

If any of the FW marine characters get redone in future they should leave it to the specialist games studio to do it.  The guys who sculpted the originals are still there.  The 40k studio would mess it up.

Helmet fixes the face. Lots of good options. If i had been half melted I would wear a helmet.

I think the idea probably is he wants people to see how messed up his face is.

To inspire fear in his underlings and enemies in a I tanked a melta gun :cuss: are you gonna do kinda way.

Probably the same reason he still wears the battered armor. He wants people to know.

I don't think they've ever done a Mage-to-Order of forgeworld miniatures, have they?

The moulds specifically made for resin don’t last that long - so I think Forgeworld made-to-order is less likely. I guess if they have a good master they can make a new mould. But again, it’s not an infinite loop.

FW made-to-orders would be amazing. If they did that with the old Mk. IV Dreadnoughts or Hive Tyrants I'd buy as many as I could. I suspect even if they don't have the original masters anymore, as long as they have a good enough copy they could still reproduce them, possibly by 3D scanning them, digitally cleaning them up and then printing a new master. Given you can get surprisingly decent scan results with phone apps I can't imagine GW wouldn't be able to digitize their analogue sculpts for a reissue somehow.

They've done several over the years, including stuff like the Necron heavy constructs, but most relevant to this discussion they did one for Lugft Huron, Sevrin Loth, Regents of the Ordon Rift and the Land Speeder Tempest at the beginning of 2024.

They could just re-release them for Horus heresy in plastic. Do a Mk IV Castraferrum in plastic with all the weapons options(GIVE ME VOLKITE CASTRAFERRUMS NOW) and re-release the chapter-specific ones in resin (sort of like what they’ve done with the contemptors).

But I agree - that was peak 40K forge world stuff. I think I got the MTO Severin Loth command squad somewhere because I wanted to convert them for my ultramarines. Not sure what happened to them, though.

Spotted on reddit; Warhammmer Masterclass seminar on a "Red Corsairs' Raider". Not a "Legionnaire" or any other distinct unit type so this might be the rumoured new infantry unit.

Interesting. Based off this, my guess for Red Corsairs would be:

New Huron

Command squad featuring Garreon and the other silhouttes (could be a box like the Ultramar lot - 'Tyrant's Cohort' or 'Court of the Tyrant' etc)

Red Corsair Raiders kit (new kit maybe, or Current Chaos kit with decent upgrade sprue)

Transfers and Dice

Man, this pic is so much better than the new sculpt. New one almost looks like an AoS mini that got repurposed for 40k.

He looks like he is trying too hard to be a centerpiece miniature. Does he really need to be up on his lil tippy toe to get onto the tactical rock?

Also, the face is ridiculous. If anyone disagrees, they can hit the grey minus sign to show they have the wrong opinion.

Edit: sometimes it really is too easy to push people's buttons. Or in this case, get them to push a button.

I know this is a slow reply to this post and while I agree with what you say you made me really tempted to push the button anyway.

After reflection on this model, I think the old model was a good design with poor execution, and the new design is a worse design with better execution.

When I look back at the older model, I know they were going for Huron using his hand weapon, but with no visible flame it always read to me as "Hey, guys! Looks at my awesome new CHAOS HAND! Isn't it neat!?", which just felt really on the nose and lame to me, but it did have the advantage of emphasising the unique weapon on the model.

Compare that to the new model and I'd say the pose if forgettable but that isn't true because GW keeps reminding us about the pose again and again. The head looks to me more like a villain from a Wallace and Gromit short and I'm not keen on seeing the cape and the wrestler belt from a lot of other CSM models.  In addition, why is his damaged power armour cracked? It's all broken with hard edges, which looks less like an attack from a thermal weapon and more like someone borrowed his axe to make some "adjustments" to his chestplate because the pipes wouldn't fit otherwise.

I think the claw design looks considerably better on the new model. I'm not that happy that there is so much ribbed texture in the palm of the hand but I think it's way better than a metal plate the size of a coffee table with a Chaos star cut into the middle of it.

Despite my slightly over-exaggerated criticisms of both models, I think they are okay, but I do think if I personally wanted to own a model representing Huron Blackheart I think I'd be doing some conversion work before I was happy with it, and I'm rarely in the mood to hack up models these days, that that implies I'd be putting more effort than using into altering this model until I was happy with it.

To be honest, I kind of just wanted to see how many people would bite.  If people like the new face, that is their right.

The claw having a metal plate on the old model makes sense to me, because it shoots fire out of the palm. Webbing seems less able to stand up to heat than a ceramite plate.

And yeah, the face is the worst part in my opinion. The robot side is whatever, but he also has giant Chiclet teeth on the human side (did the melta blast turn him into a half-horse or something?), and his mouth on that side is comically wide. As you say, he looks like a character from Wallace and Gromit.

Trust me, once someone not associated with GW gives him a paintjob, he'll look a lot better.

Really hoping these get released next month, any rumors on release date yet?

Nope, but as I mentioned elsewhere if we trust rumours of a 4 book series, one a month takes you to the 11th release announcement, so it seems good odds of one a month.
