Surprising to see people speaking so favourable about the old Huron miniature. I remember it being very poorly received across Warseer, DakkaDakka and this place back when it came out during 4th edition.  It was a generally terrible year for pewter miniatures - possessed, raptor lord, terminator sorcerer and huron didn't get any fans.

Nostalgia is a hell of a drug

40k fan communities reflexively decide to hate everything whether it deserves it or not and then after years pass familiarity breeds comfort.

we are not a particularly impartial fandom.

I don't doubt the next time this character is updated in 20 years people are going to be like "the face isn't melted enough."

I'm not a fan of the new miniature but it's still better than the old one imo.

I like both the new and old versions of Huron. I love him as a character. If you're keen on reading some good fiction about Huron, I recommend the story, Into the Maelstrom, from the late 90's. The ending is horrifying and it broke my 15 year old brain. The story still holds up very well, and I am strongly inclined to go read it again.

I'd have liked him to retain his lack of cape, as not having a cape is rare among heroes nowadays. The head could be a better sculpt but I see what they are going for and it could look better with a different painting approach.

Yeah, and changing his chainmail for cloth makes him less special as well, as it seems like almost everyone wears a tabard these days.  More chains and more cabling, that's what th new guy needs to be perfect.

I like the miniature, maybe not what I would have expected Huron to look, but still. The head is a bit cartoony but that could be the Eavy metal paintscheme doing its "magic".

The mini could be a good base for conversions though. Im sure we are going to see a grimdark-ified Huron soon after release.

The miniature reminds me of the official red corsair artwork with the dude with his helmet tucked under his arm and belt of skulls.

The gauntlet also lost it´s looks and has been made for "easier conversions"

That needs it´s iconic chaos star in the palm!!!  That´s the thing what has been bugging me also, sheesh!

The old one had Chaos star "carved" around the flamer palm nozzle, while new one is just generic powerfist webbing/rubber/undersuit looks!

Yeah, absolutely terrible that the new one looks like he might actually be able to flex it, instead of being stuck in a permanent high-five like the good old days.

Fair point, it does look worse. If I had to guess we can probably put this down to that level of detail being difficult to pull off in plastic when compared to metal/resin.
