Prot
Maybe we can get past the jokes of how many UM armies I've had. Recently (about 2 months or so ago) I decided that's it, I'm just going to redo them. In part it's because I think I can do them better, or at least in my eyes make them look a little better. At this point I do think this will be the 6th (though a friend swears it's number 7) fully painted UM army of at least 2K. The first large one I sold was to a youtube batrep channel that was fantastic back in the day. This was several thousand points and it made me proud to see them on youtube, but this was pre-Primaris (quite a while ago.) I have sold 6 of these armies all over the world, and I swear EACH time I told myself, do a different marine army. But I always come back to these guys for a variety of reasons. (Too long to explain...) So what's my goal here? I want to get at least 2-3K into these guys again. And I've painted some units, but I'll stop babbling and start posting pictures! I just finished Cato. We had a mega battle I hosted after the New Year and it was a lot of fun helping Wolves protect Fenris with my UM. Lots of fun. And at first I wasn't keen on Cato as a model but as I painted him I came to respect and really enjoy what I consider to be a very good blend of the new design while paying homage to the ancient/roman-eque baroque design of Cato's old armour. And a close up of the face showing all the mistakes.... So this launches my 2026 UM campaign. Hopefully I find some motivation through the 500 event! Stay tuned. Thanks for looking. calgar101
I think whenever we tell ourselves no more, especially in the hobby, we are just lying haha. That is a great paint job, I quite like the model. Amazing on the face. I hope your motivation stays, I look forward to following. Karhedron
I have never replaced an army wholesale but I tend to go for the grandfather's broom approach. My Space Wolves army dates from 1st/2nd edition, it just so happens that pretty much everything has been replaced at least once. calgar101 and Prot 1 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/387360-prots-new-ultramarines-for-2026/#findComment-6149802 Share on other sites
The Pounder
Yeah, I’ve done that myself with my Death Korps of Krieg! I must have painted around 20k pts of Krieg over the years! I too am restarting my Ultramarines. Your Cato looks amazing! I find faces very tough to paint and I think you’ve nailed it. Looking forward to seeing more. I recently moved and had to put my "Pile of Shame" in a storage unit which was just broken into and all the pile was stolen. The biggest shame was when I added up an inventory of the pile and saw the total. On an unrelated note, I now have ideas about replacing a bunch of my army. Prot Posted yesterday at 02:31 PM Author Share Posted yesterday at 02:31 PM Thanks guys. I have a few Ultra projects on the go simultaneously now. I really don't like painting vehicles... never have. So I tend to plop some infantry units (nothing fancy) in between vehicles to keep the fires going. I hope to have a few done and posted very soon. calgar101 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/387360-prots-new-ultramarines-for-2026/#findComment-6150057 Share on other sites

So long as you still have a Space Wolf army. @Tacitus sorry to hear that! Anyway to claim on insurance? @Prot Sometimes to keep that motivation up you got to switch to units you enjoy building and painting, a pallete cleanser is always good to have. Yeah, the insurance claim is likely to fund it. calgar101 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/387360-prots-new-ultramarines-for-2026/#findComment-6150173 Share on other sites
