Just wanted to say hello and happy to be here. Played as a teen in 90s, been out for about 25 years , and the lore and painting brought me back. I’m member of FDNY ( New York City fire department) and a fellow friend on job got me back into painting first. I find it really helps with mental fatigue and load from the job.

Live in apartment, so mainly interested in playing Boarding Action for 40k and Kill team, though goal is to slowly but surely build my painting and modeling skills.

Currently painting Dark Angels and Khorne 40k, I like to mix it up and not burn out. Thanks for taking time to read this.

Welcome!  Switching armies when painting can be a great way of preventing burnout - that's what I did when I was starting out (back in 3rd ed), swapping between my own sisters and models my friends' orks and marines.  Can make it slower to get an army done, though - so, once you've been doing it a while, you'll have to decide which is more demotivating - not getting progress in your army, or painting a bunch of the same thing.  I eventually found it was the former for me, but that isn't necessarily the right answer for you.  That said, I guess I still do bounce around a lot with painting, though now its almost exclusively between the various slannesh forces (EC, CSM, demons, knights, mortals) & terrain.

Luckily, we are at a point in the hobby in that there are a number of really good low points/models options for playing with 40K models, so I think starting with killteams/bording actions/combat patrol and deciding whether you want to expand that out into bigger armies is a great idea.  Even if you don't, nothing wrong with having a whole bunch of different factions where you only have 1 or 2 squads each - it gives you a lot of faction choices when playing those smaller games, plus it means you can hand them out to friends so that they can play too, even if they have no interest in painting or collecting themselves.

I'm pretty much exclusively a chaos fanboy so I hope to see you sharing your khorne models in the chaos subforums.

Hello and welcome!

I think that a good army to branch out is Custodes. Small model count and easy to paint.

Also, if you live in an apartament (as I do) I cannot recommend Vallejos Brush On Primer enough. The black is very easy to use and dries quickly. The white is kinda iffy.

Thanks a certainly will. Currently in the stage of getting basics down so feel confident sharing my progress . Like most hobbies, I’ve found its ebb and flow. Advance, plateau, push through , advance and repeat.
