Red line on Rogue Trader Era marines

The Red line on marine helmets to mark them as a trooper, is their an easy way of doing them? Tried just free hand but took a stressful long time.

You could try Tamiya modelling tape (or similar) to mask off the area, but I fear it's possibly too small an area? It might just be on of those things of practice

In the long run, learning the brush control to do it by hand will be much easier. I recommend trying to hold the model with your thumb under the beak of the helm. this will help centre your line, and provide a more natural angle to paint the line with even pressure.

For some helmet colours, it might be worth painting the red first, then painting the two sides and leaving the red band in the middle. Then you can get away with only having to be accurate on “one side” at a time.
